Iraq
[Read the article: Cheerful boos for Hillary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is why Iraq is such a massive 'blunder.' It's Catch-22, a rock and a hard place, damned if you do and damned if you don't all rolled into one. No one is convincing, no one has figured it out, certainly not our president who seems more interested in campaigning, throwing out slogans and platitudes than being a leader to his people. We have not figured out as a nation what the right thing to do is in Iraq. The candidates who have formed an opinion, who have taken sides on whether we should go or stay are therefore, in my opinion, showing their true colors...they are taking sides without a real plan, i.e. they are taking sides for political reasons, they are maneuvering. This is not what we want in a president. It is not genuine. It is not intelligent. It is not measured. We already have a president who fits this bill and more. We need someone different. To defeat the Repulicans resoundingly, the Democratic Party needs to fully embrace the qualities that George Bush lacks the most...wisdom, caution, diplomacy, intelligence, measured actions, treading lightly, accountability, openness, honesty, reasonableness, judiciousness. All these qualities draw a very clear picture of the flaws we need to avoid, the mistakes we need to correct. If we are a good Party we will do this and maybe we'll live in an America that once again makes positive contributions to the world and a president with the depth, character, and wisdom to show us the way. Barack Obama is all of these things and probably more. He is certainly the least like Bush.

Sex and shit don't mix unless you're a freak!
[Read the article: Why bathroom sex is hot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Public restrooms are filthy. People who are having sex in public restrooms are not liberal, cutting edge or cool. It's disgusting. It's the dark side of American/Western Puritanism. It's what's under the rock of Evangelicalism. It's the latter that makes the former something forbidden as opposed to something simply disgusting. If you can't see this as depraved in the worst way like the author of this article then you live in Caligula's world. You're FUBAR decadent.

The Neocons wanted to invade Iraq to protect Israel.
[Read the article: Bush knew Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]See the article in the New York Times (link below).
"Without intense pressure from the Israel lobby, the authors [Stephen M. Walt and John J. Mearsheimer] argue, America would not have undertaken the war in Iraq."

Excellent article!
[Read the article: The real lessons of 9/11]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]In the person of George W. Bush we have the perfect corollary to Osama bin Laden. Without Bush, bin Laden was just a two-bit thug trying to make a name for himself. With Bush he is a world-historical figure changing the way the Muslim world thinks and behaves. The same case can be made for Bush. Without bin Laden, Bush didn't know what to do with himself. With bin Laden, he's hoping he'll go down in history as a "monumental" president. Meanwhile, thousands of people die.
The caption on the news this morning read "9/11--the day America changed." Did America change? The media is complicit. The American public is addicted to soundbites and a good fight. The "War on Terrorism" is a media production and the genius of this administration has been in how they have exploited this weakness of the American people. I think Afghanistan changed more, Iraq changed more, the whole Muslim world changed more than America.
9/11 was a pin prick compared to the pounding we've given Iraq and Afghanistan and other nations throughout our disingenous history and almost always not for rational reasons but to further our own selfish ends. But most Americans are not clever enough to figure that out. They see "The Day America Changed" and eat that shit up like all the other dribble that comes out of their TV sets.
It's a farce.

Let's hope you're understanding of this book is better than your insight into Islam!
[Read the article: The Mormons are coming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Islam and Mormonism are only similar if you're a bonehead American who knows nothing about Islam. The prophet of Islam did not perform any miracles. He did not amass wealth or or horde power. His was essentially a political movement seeking to unite a disparate collection of clans and families under one banner to bring some semblance of justice to a lawless land. He married many times but apparently not at all for the same reasons as Smith. His marriages were for the purpose of strengthening political ties and mostly to widows in a society that 'emphasized virgin marriages.'
Get your facts straight and don't make idiotic comparisons you know nothing about!

Douchebag!
[Read the article: My questions for President Ahmadinejad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Regardless of how ridiculous Mr. Ahmadinejad's ideas may be he came to speak at your university as your guest, invited by you. For you then to insult him and brand him an intellectual coward before he has even had a chance to speak in order to score points with your critics and detractors is the epitomy of cowardice. You are a douchebag of the very highest order Mr. Bollinger. If you believe what you say, that Mr. Ahmadinejad is an intellectual coward then you should have known that your invitation for him to speak would only serve to give him a legitimate platform to air his "ridiculous" ideas. But since you invited him anyway and then proceeded to insult him to his face to curry political favor makes you not only impolite and ungracious but a rat and a weasal. You are no better than he is, likely much worse!

When are these numbnuts going to figure it out...
[Read the article: James Dobson's Rudy problem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...that morality has nothing whatsoever to do with effective leadership.
