Amazing

And just what is the price tag for Bush or Condi to hop on Air Force One and fly to Iraq in the middle of the night for a photo op with the troops any time the admin. is about to have a bad news day? I could grasp that number, but I'll never hear it from my MSM. They think I'm too stupid to understand it. So, I'll get the puff piece which seems to be required now as part of the nightly news. I'll bet anything the Hair/Makeup story makes it onto all three network newscasts tonight. Makes me wanna HURL!

I think a theme for several columns now, has been calling out the lazy typists who offend with this lightwieght crap. NPR got a letter from me the other day, and Politico will get one today. Gotta start somewhere.

BTW Glenn, I have wanted to say for some time what a pleasure it is to read your writing. I wish I could make my points as cogently as you when debating my Republican friends.

Elephant in the room

There's a certain poster here who regularly incurs the wrath of the rest of us; but sometimes the guy is right, as he is today.

As a white man, I feel shame for the way Aaron was treated in the 70's (my teen years, when I watched a ton of baseball). I'm searching my memory... yeah, I have to admit, I felt a twinge of racism as Aaron legitimately bested the Babe's record. I think I'm a better person now. But to try and tease a racial angle out of the Bonds story today is just plain wrong. What fans are ambivelent about is the cheating. Plain and simple. Not that Bonds is black, or anti-social, or has a gigantic head. MLB made a deal with the Devil; ie. looking the other way while the revenue stream flowed uninterrupted. The great American passtime has been cheapened like everything else in our culture.

"fuck the war on terror"

Couldn't agree more. It's time for everyone to awaken from this long, LONG, world-wide nightmare/paranoid fantasy. My 10 and 9 yo children have now spent the majority of their lives listening to this crapoola every day. Count me out.

Sad to say; Hillary will not be

If HRC is the Democratic candidate, I'll hold my nose and vote for her; only because I despise all things GOP. I think there's quite a few people who will do the same, but we're not the majority and we certainly won't be enough.

You know, Karl Rove's real genius was the 50% plus one idea. Progressive journalists who wonder whether the GOP is trying to mobilize the base are out of touch (sorry Joan). "The base" is downright mobilized, to put it mildly; they freakin' despise HRC. It will be easy to tweak the rest of the GOP, and there are plenty of progressive liberal Dems, like me, who are not crazy about Hillary. I really used to like her more, before she defended the war vote, and adopted the pandering-to-all, politically-correct, beltway-droid persona.

I guess "Anon" got deleted

I can't find the letter though I'm dying to read it. I can just about guess what it says. I see these guys with the beer balls all too frequently. Reminds me of a guy I used to know who claimed to ex-paramilitary secret ops dude, although he was my age and too young to have been in 'Nam. He used to wear a CIA ring with a black stone about the size of a quarter on his finger, dressed in cowboy clothes, swaggered and kept us all safe.

Bolton

Two observations:

This old interview shows some of the first claiming the adjective "reasonable" when neo-cons self-describe (translation; others are therefore, unreasonable).

And, Bolton seems to be saying that it was correct to oust the dictator, but a mistake to remain and shape whatever replaced the dictatorship.

So, why is it "unreasonable" for anyone to suggest withdrawl? Classic Neo-con doublespeak.

Nuclear warhead speculation/paranoid dreams

The U.S (and a few other powers) have developed submarine-based nuclear arsenals, deployed on craft which can remain hidden (submerged) for months at a time, where most of the crew don't know their exact whereabouts or destination. These ships can deliver a nuclear warhead on a cruise-missle so accurately as to target a specific building (as if such accuracy were necessary). Indeed, we are capable of delivering a nuclear strike so nefariously that the recipient might not be able to pinpoint where it came from. This has long been public knowlege. Certainly the Iranians have intelligence services which know this.

Wild speculation about the incident at Barksdale AFB makes us liberals look shrill. I do believe the neo-cons are up to no good and some of them are crazy enough to contemplate the use of nuclear weapons; but they won't be flown over to Iran on a 50 year old airplane, stopping on the way for gas, and tracked the whole way by satellites and radar. Come on guys, stop flinching at shadows!

Remembering the Gipper

Why is it that Clinton looks worse with the passage of time while Reagan nears sainthood?

I was going to write in and ask simply; “Just WTF was so great about Ronald Reagan?” I remember that sleazy actor. Death squads funded with illegal arms sales (to IRAN LOL!), and taking advice from the nutcase first lady’s astrology chart. Yeah, those were the good old days. At least he looked good doing it. He was batshit crazy, but nobody cares about such trifles. He didn’t know where the hell he was, but he looked great in a suit and could ride a horse. You know, the kind of guy you would like to have a beer with.
