Why do certain posters here put up 30 or 50 posts on a single thread? Are you not able to make your thoughts known in a post or two? I won't cite names, you damn-well know who you are. And you're damn-well reading this far into the thread.
I won't be reading your (multiple) answer(s) tonight; it's kinda hot in here with the friction of you guys strokin' the keys. But leave them. just the same. Because that's what you do.
I care because I like to read the letters section to Glenn's posts. I like it because it gives me an (albeit-skewed) feeling for what others are thinking. But the back-and-forth between some posters, makes it difficult to keep up.
Don't get me wrong, I would say that I agree, appreciate, sympathize, with the opinions of most of those who I'm complaining about. It's just the same names over and over again, in their petty little fights and clarifications with others. YOU don't ring a bell. But, you asked me a question, and I answered it.
I'm breaking my own rule to even respond.
Good night.
I shoulda kept my mouth shut. I like your posts. Just forget it everyone- I'm feeling frustrated with the shit that's going down.
I worked hard for this guy, now he's tossing me under the bus. I was so excited....
Really G'night
I'm no cyber expert, there is an explanation and comment-thread on Joan Walsh's blog; about why Salon instituted a "flag" option, but is un-willing to mark-up, or rate most- popular posts. It's just too damn confusing to me to track-back these discussions between posters.
The teary-eyed Glenn Beck is the perfect poster-child for the right wing of this country. Scared under his bed by the host of evils coming to get us; he conflates them all into an evil cabal of unlikely bedfellows, liberals, Nazis, Jews, and of course, Al Qaeda. Any wingnut will tell you they’re all the same (though any sane person knows that there are many sub-divisions in any of these groups, which hate each-other).
It’s a hoot to watch these sissy-boys self-destruct under the weight of the “Chicken Little” mantra which lined their pockets for 8 years.
WAAAAAAAH! You friggin’ pussies. Look out! Obama and the “socialists” are coming to get you!
Only problem is; your act is wearing thin…..It’s all over, but the crying.
Kurt Vonnegut used to tell the story that he had asked the German author Gunther Grass what he thought was the fundamental flaw of the German character; to which Grass relied "obedience".
This story brought to you by a German who knows plenty of other Germans. I can attest that there is some truth to it.
Just funny to hear a German admit it. Unless, of course, he were instructed to deny it.
And Geraldo...... you have a point there...(shudder).
MJ was never a great singer; listen to Marvin Gaye, Wilson Picket, Stevie Wonder and a thousand other lesser stars for pipes.
A great talent? Not primarily as a singer, I would argue. An incredible showman and dancer? Those things he was for sure. He was simply right for his time, Like Jackson Pollack, Bill De Kooning, and Bobby Darrin. How would that art play today?
The parallels to Elvis are eerie-- mediocre-star cashes in on the groundbreaking style of previous artists, hires svengali producer, sells soul to make cross-over appeal albums, gets too rich and famous, hides behind a veil of narcotics and ecentric lifestyle facilitated by shady Rx writing doctors, and dies young. Our celebrity-obsessed-culture makes 'em and breaks 'em; is the sad truth. We all know, that there was a Brittany death-watch circa the head-shaving incident.
Gets me around to my point: Joan, it may be your mag, but you are the worst spokesperson I have ever read. Who the hell cares that MJ was a couple months older than you? Oh, you do. And as much as I can respect your appearing on O'Reilley, and debating McCain's daughter-I thought in each instance you came off the worse. I know, I know... All hard-core liberals are sending you kudos for bravery. Not a single mind was changed.
Put on some headphones and crank to "ABC" or "I Want You Back", awesome tracks; but not the vocal. Tell me if I'm not right.
I'll give you the rhythmic tricks, I stand corrected on that score (though many, many artists do it better). One could say the same of Chuck Berry though, who wuz rappin' 50 years ago. Great artist, not a particularly good singer. MJ had a very limited vocal range, no particular intonation, did not write his material and wowed audiences with his stagecraft, not his singing. I'm not dissing the guy, I think he was phenominal; Just don't call him a "singer" in the same way you should not call the very vocally talented Celine Dion a "dancer" LOL.
And who is Q?
X, I'm sure it was Meagan McCain, vid must be available on youtube.
