They can't.

bring empirical evidence that is not from a conservative idea factory....

-- doloresflower

I have never found a conservative who can prove their economic theories work. The politicians know they don't work, but merely enrich the already wealthy. That's how they like it. They've suckered the little guy by pretending that they cut their taxes and engage in limited government spending.

Look what happens when you put the clear facts right in front of them? They counter with ad hominem attacks about the "liberal" institute which came up with the statistics. But, don't expect them to provide any data on their own. They can't.

Oh look!

You think it's "impressive." Normal people see it as pretentious and presumptuous.

Just Thinking

Remember those emails that have been circulating about Obama and Michelle, making all kinds of insane accusations and insinutations about them? I received one (from someone who believed everything in it), and it was one of the most offensive things I've ever read. (And, I'm not even an Obama fan.)

What do you think the GOP (or Glenn's whiny trolls, for that matter) would do if similar items started circulating about Sarah Palin?

Thursday, September 4, 2008 02:38 PM

@ Arne

This?

11. Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

Palin: "Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance."

The stuff of which dreams are made.

Seriously, though, that is unbelievable on so many levels. On the other hand, I'm not sure your average American would catch on.

O/T

But related to several discussions that have been held in the comments sections to other posts.

ACLU of Minnesota will be representing the Democracy Now! team with regard to their St. Paul arrests:

http://www.aclu.org/freespeech/protest/36635prs20080903.html

I guess the ACLU DOES agree that what was done to these three journalists was unlawful.

(By the way, the charges have been suspended pending an investigation.)

Interesting

A blog from someone who knows Ms. Palin:

http://www.thepresidentialcandidates.us/about-sarah-palin-a-letter-from-anne-kilkenny/741/

Obviously, it's to be taken with a grain of salt (or to be completely disregarded becasue she is a "babe," can shoot a Moose and didn't kill her kid. The resident trolls have actually gotten worse since the Palin pick. It's unbelievable). Nonetheless, it's very interesting.

@ omooex, @ RMP

Now they just post phrases next to asterisks.

-- omooex

And, some of those phrases were more sexist than anything the Obama campaign has even dared to say. Ironic, no?

RMP: I guess I take everything from an unknown quantity with a grain of salt. The blog is convincing, to be sure (to me, at least), and most of it comports with what we already know to be true. I just wouldn't want to run with it without fact checking it first.

@ RMP

In a town the size of Walisa it would be impossible to be a fraud.

-- Retired Military Patriot

Point well taken. But, just for the record, my caution over the article was not because of or directed at the resident trolls, to display that "liberals" fact-check. (As if they would care anyway! :) )

By the way, that Daily Show clip you linked is a must watch! The Dick Morris "apron strings" quote, by itself, is enough to make it worth watching.

@Liberty Gal

Do you have a link to the article where this is quoted? It's a gem and I just had to laugh. I doubt there are two more ignorant people ever to have run for higher office. If you have the time I'd love to know the source.

-- LibertyGal

Credit goes to Arne Langsetmo, who originally posted it. The link to the source is in my signature. Enjoy! It's almost as funny as when she said she has no idea what the Vice President does... Almost.

Meanwhile...

"Liberals" everywhere are advocating for backing off Palin. Even Jane Hamsher seems to be on that train (though her point is too vague for me to decipher). The argument seems to go that the risk of the MSM painting Palin as a martyr outweighs the potential value of pointing out her many weaknesses. (Link in sig.)

I call BS. The voters have a right to know, and I don't think they're a stupid (or overly emotional) as everyone assumes. My 86 year old grandmother, lifelong Republican, told me that McCain's pick of Palin was an "insult to women." As if he could just pander to them, and they'd accept an inexperienced whackjob because she has the right parts. No go.

And, frankly, I am now planning to vote for Obama and maybe even donate to him (I had sworn not to do either) because Sarah Palin (and McCain's lack of judgment in making the choice) scare me so completely.

Voters have the right to access to the information. What they do with it might not be what's best for this country. But we should withhold it, because the media will sensationalize it, for goodness sake! I can't believe this argument is STILL being made. In 2008!

@ Omooex

I believe that it was John McCain who said issues don't matter.

-- omooex

I was appalled when I read that quote (from his campaign manager, Rick Davis). It reeks of contempt for the voters.

Also ironic (read: hypocritical) was the rest of the quote. He went on to say "This election is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates." So, now that they've got Palin, it's merely about personalities.

Remember when that was a bad thing? (See McCain's ad comparing Obama to Paris and Britney.) Salon has a good article up about this - "McCain to Obama: Do as I say, not as I do."
