Omooex

Sorry. How do you disagree with my assertion? You said taht you were unsure about it, but that you believed that it was an article of faith for Democrats.

-- omooex

I said I'm not sure if I agree, a phrase which doesn't indicate complete disagreement. There's part of me that does agree with your assessment. But, I also think that Americans are imminently dissatisfied with Bush's policies. I know that there's a significant portion of the population (1/3, maybe?) that will always be blood thirsty and/or dumber than a box of rocks, which leads them to love the Bush/McCain politician. (Interesting case in point: Gilbert Arenas, millionaire NBA player, has a blog where he stated two things: 1) if you're wealthy you have to be a Republican, but 2) he's not registered to vote, because, if he were, he'd be subject to jury duty. The wealthy elite in this country are something else, I tell you.)

But, there's another segment of the population who is middle of the road and who, I believe, does not enjoy war for the sake of war. I also think that they refuse to suffer any kind of inconvenience for war, because, ultimately, they don't really believe in it, at least as far as Iraq is concerned. They're starting to feel the crunch, and it's pissing them off. Their fear of an empty pocketbook will overrun their need for violence. The polls are bearing this out.

But, she has Vogue photos!

This is what's at the top of Yahoo's home page right now:

"Beyond VP pick's politics: Sarah Palin's interesting family, Vogue photos, and beauty-pageant days are piquing people's interest." And, then it links to a WSJ article about her workout habits, workout clothing and eating habits: http://tinyurl.com/6fdz8z

Just when you think the media can't get any more vapid.

More Weenie Moments Brought to You by the Obama/Biden Campaign

There is so much material to use against Palin, but Obama/Biden are busy telling everyone how they can't wait to get to know her. If she were a Democrat, I'd feel sorry for her. I can just imagine the campaign the Repubs would run against her. Ads featuring Britney and Paris would be the least of it.

Things like this are just par for the course, I guess:

Palin's selection, Obama said, "is one more indicator of this country moving forward. The fact that you've got a woman" as the "vice presidential nominee of one of the major parties, I think, is one more hit against that glass ceiling."

They even apologized for Obama's spokesman's earlier statements about her (blasting McCain for putting, “the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency"). Figures. It's as if McCain handed them the election on a silver platter, and they can't even manage to accept the gift.

Democracy Now! Transcript...

Here's the link to the transcript from this morning's interview with Nicole Salazar and Sharif Abdel Kouddous:

http://tinyurl.com/5d2bgf (link @ sig)

It doesn't appear that they were doing anything wrong and that they were, in fact, trying to follow law enforcement instructions and get out of the way, but were prevented from doing so due to the circumstances.

Of course, some people will immediately discount them as liars because they don't like Democracy Now! or because they don't want to hear something that doesn't jibe with their view that everything the cops do is presumably justifiable, even without any facts to support that view.

@Elephantman

I accept, arguendo, that you hate policemen the way that I hate Democarcy Now! That's okay.

I never said any such thing, nor do I hold such a belief (unlike your freely admitted dislike of Democracy Now! which clearly has bearing on your credibility to judge whether its producers are honest). If you have to argue your case in this intellectually dishonest manner, it's clearly not much of a case.

There's video of Nicole Salazar's arrest. Why don't you watch it? It's actual evidence of what happened. Then maybe you can make an argument about real facts, not presumptions that serve your agenda.

@LWM

I saw the videotape (better if they hadn't taped it) and if I were her attorney that's exactly what I'd be telling Amy her story was and to stick to it.

For the record, it was me who said it looked like "she" was following orders, but I wasn't talking about Amy Goodman. I was talking about Nicole Salazar, the producer who was arrested before Amy.

@LWM

Glenn just linked to it in Update IX. I also linked it in an earlier post.

I actually can see the video only on the front page - democracynow.com. (My computer doesn't recognize the formats on the page Glenn linked.) It's the first thing on the page - it's, I believe, the entirety of today's show. The interview with the two producers is also in there.

The video of the arrest is right at the beginning. I actually find the sound more powerful than the video.

@LWM

but if she was holding the camera, that's not really the angle I want to see.

I just found the video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jreRSEQ_yg

You beat me to it!

Jump To Conclusions Mat.

Someone mentioned the Pet Rock, but all I could think of was the Jump To Conclusions Mat. Nice work.

The St. Paul Police Chief Speaks

But doesn't say much:

http://www.democracynow.org/2008/9/3/amy_goodman_grills_st_paul_police

In fact, he sounds a lot like Elephantman. Hey, if they got arrested and physically harmed, they must have deserved, it right?
