Maybe the hostility just comes from having picked the team that lost...
[Read the article: Some thoughts about West Virginia ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I know he's not a cult leader. I was using hyperbole to point out the absurdity of blunderdog's post." --Green Job
Which was the absurd part? I ask because I'm actually interested in what constitutes "absurd" in your world.
Seriously--the post I was responding was Joan's, in which she made clear her perspective that "Obama has to be careful to reach out and win over the Hillary supporters."
My question remains, and if it's absurd, I'd really appreciate knowing why you think so...
IF Hillary's supporters are Democrats who are fed up with the path of the current administration, WHY would a guy like Obama have to "worry" about losing Hillary voters to McCain?
There are only going to be two major party candidates. If they're not going to vote for Hillary because she's not nominated, is there really any risk of them going for McCain?
That guy's an idiot. No one who actually cares about Hillary's platform would EVER vote for McCain...right?
In all honesty, I believe that Hillary supporters who are so adamant that they will not ever vote Obama should vote anyway and write in their candidate. Whether Hillary or Edwards, whatever, it's important that these voters are on the record as NOT being McCain voters.
(Side note to Green Job: I don't know what I said that offended you, but I don't think it's what I meant.)

Hey, Rowan
[Read the article: Finding Obama guilty of insufficient devotion to Israel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just 'cause we're reading at Salon doesn't mean we know all about use of dialect in Israel. I don't know enough folks who've spent time there.
So what's the interesting bit about the "kishke" comment?

Absurd, sure.

Yep, well, I stopped paying attention to Hillary when it became apparent she couldn't win the nomination.
Honestly, she's just not relevant.

Why do the States have to pay for it?
[Read the article: Rape kits for "Jane Doe"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]These kits look like a great idea, and should definitely be provided wherever rape kits are available.
But why do the Feds get to threaten to defund agencies that don't shell out for these things?
I'd kinda like to know who owns the business that's selling anonymous rape kits, and find out who they know in Congress. I suspect there's some fishy pork involved.
I don't support the idea that the Feds can mandate expenses borne by the States without providing assistance in generating the funding. This is exactly the kind of legislation that ends up with Americans paying more taxes for Federal programs that they refuse to fund. That's not right.

Isn't CNN just a buncha crap?

Looks like an opportunity to me.
[Read the article: The California decision and the presidential campaign]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I understand that quote from the judge which rejects the perspective that the rights are what matter and the name is not relevant.
It sounds to me like the most logical and appropriate legal path would be to eliminate the government's involvement in "marriage" in every way. Apply civil union rights to same- and opposite-sex couples, and let people tell their neighbors WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT TO.
Any man and woman who need a third-party to declare them "married" can still go to their house of worship, right?

...
[Read the article: Quote of the Day: Barack Obama ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well, the good news is, every other Presidential candidate has been perfect on this score, so anyone else who's elected will pass the "sweetie" litmus test.
Both McCain and Clinton have never said anything they should apologize for.

Misogyny Exposed...now what?
[Read the article: Quote of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is only a big deal when it's the "right" form of bigotry, it seems.
Yes, there are people who hate women. And people who hate blacks, latinos, Europeans, asians, and even puppies. (Hell, I've even met a few folks who had a problem with WHITE people! Can you imagine???)
Apparently, when the "hated" group is on the right side, this hatred is indicative of a huge social injustice or problem. But if the hated group is on the wrong side, it's just not a big deal.
So if a group of people hate women, it's a huge problem for society, and it's misogyny, and the injustice is just intolerable.
And if a group of people hate men, well, men kinda deserve it because they rule the world.
I dunno. That stuff is kinda wearing me out. Is it really worth keeping track of every single illustration of some irrational hatred?
How do we progressives benefit from constant carping on "sexism against WOMEN" and "racism against BLACKS" while pretending that there aren't other absurd demonstrations of prejudices?
What good are we going to accomplish by focusing so single-mindedly on "this"ism, when we could just be working towards the unification of ALL PEOPLE?
These are sincere questions, by the way. I'm honestly curious to hear how complaining about the unfair treatment of Hillary Clinton in the primary process can help us determine what to do to make things better.

Still Curious...
[Read the article: Quote of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How do we benefit from this reportage?
How do we turn our awareness of misogyny into something productive?
Beating up on people because of the failure of Hillary's campaign probably isn't going to do anyone any good. Even if they are misogynists.
There is SO MUCH hostility on this board, even between people who aren't even in disagreement.
Definitely time to start thinking about the unity bit.
