NOT funny...
[Read the article: Is rape ever funny?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But then, Will Ferrell is reknowned for the unfunniest crap to ever be committed to film or tape!

Often Wondered...
[Read the article: Remembering Bob Watts]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've always marveled at the deceptively simple illustrations accompanying the Salon articles and often laughed aloud at how spot-on they were. Thank you for sharing your memories and providing an insight rarely seen these days. Yours is -probably- the best epitaph any one of us could ever enjoy.

There Was a Time...
[Read the article: Holy Constitution!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I used to think Guiliani and Thompson were the scary ones in the GOP field. They're rank amateurs compared to Huckabee. Truly frightening - truly sobering. Time to wake up, people - start asking the hard questions and demanding answers.

A Sobering Evaluation
[Read the article: TV Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've read "Life WIthout Us" and eagerly looked forward to "Life After People." Amazingly enough, neither disappointed me and confirmed beyond any shadow of a doubt that Man is not in control, never has been and couldn't possibly be under any circumstances. All we are is a sophisticated blip on the evolutionary timeline of the planet. Self-aware, intelligent and creative to be sure, but we're recent arrivals and are so proud of what we can do, that we're hastening our own shuffle off this mortal coil!
Nature is #1 -- time for everyone to realize, learn and accept the fact.

What Crap!
[Read the article: "Because I love America ... I have to now stand aside"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Romney simply saw the writing on the wall... that he could not win... and that his 'empty shirt' rhetoric simply wasn't washing with the electorate. At least there was George Romney, who also failed in his bid for the White House but at least was honorable throughout. We're all better off without this one.

I Want to Open a Vein!
[Read the article: America closes the book on intelligence]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Miller's article strikes a powerfully resonant chord and I suspect Jacoby's book goes a long, long way toward explaining the intellectual malaise we find ourselves in.
One line, in particular, struck me: "...Intellect, copious reading and education by themselves are no guarantee of reasonable or even sensible behavior, as the neo-conservative true believers responsible for the Iraq war have amply demonstrated." Could there be any more ominous a warning about where all this is leading us? The past several years have been a full frontal assault on reason and truth but now we have a reasonable explanation for it all... we, as a society, aren't smart enough (or too timid) to exert enough intellectual heft to declare the emperor has no clothes!
And, sadly, this Administration (and I use the term loosely) is only the most glaring example of our intellectual poverty.
Thank you, Laura Miller, Jacoby's book just moved to the top of my reading list.

Slo-Motion, Constant Train Wreck
[Read the article: "Semi-Pro"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Will Ferrell is a slow rolling accident drivers (viewers) can't seem to look away from. You know you shouldn't have such base instincts and morbid curiosities but you can't help yourself.
Time for a little self-help.
Repeat this mantra whenever the urge strikes: "Will Ferrell is NOT funny. I can do better."
Before you know it - the brain cells that shut down in the wake of Ferrell will actually start to fire properly again... and the sun will shine!

Countdown to Mental Relief
[Read the article: The cold price of hot blood]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I know it won't do a damned thing toward reducing the crushing debt we now all carry... but January 2009 cannot come soon enough!
Someone recently asked me if I had seen the last State of the Union message. My response; "Why would anyone watch or waste their time on a proven liar who can't be trusted to give you the right time of day?"
I'm not certain, but I cannot imagine a president more irrelevant than this one.

Dead-on Review!
[Read the article: "The Visitor"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ms. Zacharek has done all film goers a huge service, for which we should all express our gratitude! I caught "The Visitor" as part of an arts festival at Florida State University a few months back. She has captured its essence. While sometimes seemingly slow moving, it is, nevertheless commanding as a reflection on so many levels of today's society.

What the...
[Read the article: TV Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not sure what to think anymore about LOST. The story line gets progressively stranger but I'm so invested in the characters and so fascinated by the production, it's impossible to look away!
The producers said back at the very beginning they had enough story threads to run the series for 5 years. I'm guessing they're bound and determined to wear us all down to emotional wrecks by the time they finish 1) jerking us from one dimensional time shift to another, 2) whipsawing us back and forth on who is actually 'good' or 'bad' and 3) revealing what the hell the island really is!
Nevertheless, you gotta love the smoke monster - that was one helluva ride!
