Mr. Jennings And His Dream

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am a Catholic but most certainly not a fundamentalist Catholic as most Catholics are.
Having been educated as a Catholic some fifty years ago I remember that jews, blacks and gays were hated then by Catholics and it seems to still be going strong for blacks and gays and is a bit, just a bit moderated for jews.
I started questioning these Catholic attitudes when I made a jewish friend, we were both nine years old, and I liked him. I, to this day, have not forgotten him or his friendship. In college and at two grad schools I made jewish friends, black friends and even a gay friend and I liked them all, I accepted them and they accepted me, it was as simple as that. Since they were juniors in high school I had two gay friends whom I liked, socialized with and respected just as they respected me. We are equals in the sight of God.
As a result I have largely discarded the fundamentalist Catholic attitudes that I heard growing up as a Catholic.
As a Catholic I abhor the Catholic alliance with the Republican party which is polluted with hate and intolerance. Pope John Paul II aligned the Catholic church with the Repug party shortly after Reagan (the sleeping pres) came to power and the church remains so aligned to this day and to me that is disgusting. And I'm not even a Democrat.
The church, over the last two millenia has made many mistakes and continues to do so. It has largely lost the path taught us by Jesus Christ.
Mr. Jennings has a mission which seems to make him happy and that is good. But I think he is in denial about fundamentalist religions and gays ever getting along. The problem is not the gays it is the fundies who have completely forgotten the lessons of Christ, the true Christ, not George Bush, the self proclaimed christ who is nothing more than a thug and criminal. He is a purveyor of hate and intolerance as is the Catholic Church and all fundamentalist religions and groups.
The Repugs, nazi-fascist neocons, the Bushies and the fundie theocrats are simple stirring up hate and violence in the middle east and in America.
As a result of these groups the world moves ever closer to the brink of war especially in the middle east and the enormous fracturing of American society. I don't see any end to this because these American theocrats will never stop merging church and state under control of the Republican party.
If it wants to be involved in politics there are many, many good things the Catholic church could do like pressuring Mexico to allow it's people to climb out of poverty but instead it encourages Mexican immigrants, Catholic clergy and laity to break American laws. The Catholic church should never be supporting the Repub party instead it should be putting heavy pressure on Bush and the Repubs to support American wage earners and their families.
Porn is all of one cloth be it adult porn, adult porn that reaches children, child porn, pedophilia or sexual slavery. And yet the biggest carrier of porn in America is a Catholic and the Catholic church and the other fundie theocratic religions in America do absolutely nothing at all.
The fundie theocrats in America keep women in a second class status. Between this and porn is why we have JonBenet Ramsey, a six year old little girl exploited by her parents as a sex object. And then of course there is the extremely lengthy coverup of pedophile priests by the Catholic church hierarchy. That alone is totally disgusting and way beyond any reasoning or understanding. Talk about them losing the path set by Jesus Christ. WOW, have they ever...
I wish Mr. Jennings well in his endeavors.
All the fundie religions and groups who are convinced they know the mind of God may not know what they think they know.
I fear greatly for my beloved America and our rapidly diminishing democratic values.
America was once a beacon of hope and light in the world but it has become a rogue terrorist state disliked/hated and feared by most of the world thanks entirely to the funamentalist theocrats, the nazi-fascist neocons, the Bush crime family of nazi sympathizers, and the out of control Big Businesses who have no morals anymore than greed, just as Bush and the Repubs have no morals, just an all consuming greed and political power.

Like all Repubs he is a Repub first and an American last or not at all.
And I still remember the assassination he did on Anita Hill at the Clarence Thomas hearings.
I believe in naming names and pointing fingers if 'we the people' are going to save America for 'we the people'.
Where does Arlen Specter live and why don't you Pennsylvanians who live near him set up a 24/7 picket line in front of his house.
