  • The Silent Majority in America

[Read the article: The left splits over immigration]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Yes the Dems are split over immigration but then so are the Repubs as both parties are in chaos over this issue. When they come back from vacation and take up this issue once more my guess/bet is that both politcal parties will most certainly do a royal job of screwing up this issue with more useless ineffective legislation.

I am an 'equal opportunity' critic of our government because I am an independant swing voter and completely uncommitted to either political party. Both parties are replete with boneheads/ meatheads. Most pols are a bunch of screwups who are almost completely out of touch with the American people. The average, everyday, ordinary American citizen just does not know what to make of these clowns, nor do I. Well, actually I do, the pols first and foremost priority is to constantly get re-elected, forever ad nauseam.

There are many things we can do to stop the political insanity that plagues our government. A two term limit for all of them is a good idea, that way they are not in office long enough to get 'completely' corrupted only partially so. We must get rid of the electoral college this indirect method of expressing our wishes is idiotic, besides who would trust an elector to adhere to the wishes of the people. Campaigning for office should be limited to one month just before elections with a limited number of tv spots for each candidate.

Now back to the immigration issue. As said above I fully expect the immigration reform legislation to be another failure, benefitting only the business owners. Despite the unequivocal fact that a wall is a very effective tool to controlling illegal entry into the U.S. I sincerely doubt one will be forthcoming. I am convinced this issue will be re-visited many times in the future and it will go unsolved each time.

Americans do not have the stomach for taking a firm approach to this problem. The Catholic Church, my church I am ashamed to say, is determined to encourage disobediance of any law that gets enacted which does not give full amnesty to all illegal immigrants and the church wields a lot of political power in todays 'Totalitarian Republican Theocracy' whereby church and state have been merged and become one.

I'm not corrupt, but were I a politician I would bend all my efforts to breaking this seemingly single issue into two separate issues. The first piece of legislation would/ should be to create as impregnable a wall as possible. Doing that first would lessen the hysterical race toward 'comprehensive' immigration legislation which we may later come to regret. While the wall is being built the issue can be studied at a much slower pace which hopefully would allow the 'silent majority' to voice their opinion and wishes to congress. This is now a complex problem which requires serious study by academicians, pollsters and legislators and especially 'we the people'. All sides of this issue should be allowed to surface and legal Americans must have time to allow their thinking to percolate around all aspects of this issue.

So far all we have heard has come from the Mexican government, 12 million illegal immigrants and a bunch of American politicians. When are the average, everyday people going to be heard. No matter how wonderful or not wonderful the illegal immigrants are, only their side of the situation has been heard. Now the thinking of the 280 million legal silent majority of Americans deserves to be heard and must be heard before any final decisions are made.
