Life is out of whack

It may drive ecologists crazy to talk about a balance in nature. But it's more necessary than ever

Deconstruction Junction

We've been deconstructing you for recreation. How does it feel to be a laboratory specimen?

It's nice to know you're feeling outclassed. Hopefully that will make you more tractable in the future.

You haven't deconstructed anything. Your posts are laughably absurd. You found a new toy, the "logical fallacy," and you are playing with it in your sandbox. I know you are having fun, and that is fine, but you have not deconstructed me, I have made no "logical fallacies," and your and Iconclast's posts are amusing at best, sad at worst.

The only thing that's absurd, Steele

Is how often you attempt refutation by saying, "Nuh uh!," or try to change the subject altogether, and think no one will notice that you haven't offered any evidence other than your big mouth, and huge, hundred-years-in-the-making conspiracy theories.

Iconoclasticus Spasticus

What is a "logical fallacy?"

Definition: A logical fallacy is a fallacy in logical argumentation. (Princeton); A fallacy is an argument which provides poor reasoning in support of its conclusion. (Wikipedia); an often plausible argument using false or invalid inference (Merriam-Webster)

I am not arguing with you. I am not debating you.

I am not constructing a logical argument, nor have I ever attempted to do so here.

I am not trying to pursuade you.

So there is no logical fallacy. How can there be? I am merely sharing my thoughts and opinions. Sharing thoughts and opinions does not allow for logical fallacies. Do you understand now? Do you get it?

Geez.

It is good that you and Walter know about logical fallacies, and are attempting to make use of them in deconstructing arguments. Maybe this will inspire others to do the same. But like a child with a hammer, you are merely walking room to room smashing everything you see. Just as everything is a nail to a five year old with a hammer, everything is a logical fallacy to you and Walter.

RETREAT!

Thanks for the definition, but I already knew it. I'm not surprised that you couldn't tell.

I am not arguing with you. I am not debating you.

I didn't think you could get any more dishonest than you already had, but, man, you sure showed me! I have to admit that this is a new one on me. I feel like I'm in the Monty Python Argument Clinic.

I am not constructing a logical argument

Well, we can agree on that much.

nor have I ever attempted to do so here.

Ummm, yeah, I'm going to go ahead and disagree here.

Here are some examples of the arguments you're not making, in case you need a reminder:

My mother’s oncologist, a well-respected teacher and practitioner for several years, even admitted under his breath one day that environmental toxins are the number one threat to human health, that it’s fundemental.

...

We have survived Ice Ages. We have migrated to, and populated, [snip geography]. And you think Mankind is in danger because we might get a little hot or a little cold over the next several hundred years? It’s fucking laughable.

...

Global warming is not a threat to mankind – it is a threat to the powerful and the elite, who have all their money tied up in coastal properties; who have all their money tied up in centralized power grids, food distribution networks, and tax collecting. They are the ones who will be destroyed by global warming – the human race will be just fine.

When I point out all the flaws in your logic, you retreat to this?!?.

I am not trying to pursuade[sic] you.

Riiiight....

So there is no logical fallacy. How can there be? I am merely sharing my thoughts and opinions. Sharing thoughts and opinions does not allow for logical fallacies. Do you understand now? Do you get it?

Sharing thoughts and opinions in an adversarial manner is arguing.

Since you brought the dictionary into it, here's are the top few definitions of argument from Google:

-- a fact or assertion offered as evidence that something is true; "it was a strong argument that his hypothesis was true"

-- controversy: a contentious speech act; a dispute where there is strong disagreement; "they were involved in a violent argument"

-- a discussion in which reasons are advanced for and against some proposition or proposal; "the argument over foreign aid goes on and on"

Do I really have to explain to your logically challenged brain that you've been offering assertions into evidence (without facts, but assertions, nonetheless), advancing reasons against a proposal, etc? I mean, I thought I was pedantic, but you're giving me a sweaty run for my money.

I mean, I'll agree wholeheartedly that your arguments weren't very good arguments, but to say they're not even intended as arguments at all is the funniest thing you've said so far in the entire thread. I expect the comedy is unintentional, which makes it even funnier. LMAO!

Earlier in the thread, you even said, "I win!" How can you win a non-argument?

I'm going to steal this one from you. It's pretty much genius. In fact, it's the best argument you've come up with, so far.

I rarely resort to name calling here,

but never has it been more appropriate.

You're an idiot.
