Her deadly wolf program

With a disdain for science that alarms wildlife experts, Sarah Palin continues to promote Alaska's policy to gun down wolves from planes.

The letters thread is now closed.

No, pacificaharry, you don't get it

I doubt any pro-choice person would do anything but abhor a physician who gets pleasure from performing an abortion. The question for me isn't whether or not wolf-culling should be illegal. I'm sure there are occasional needs for it, as there can be for women to end their pregnancies. But that doesn't mean anyone should ENJOY it. That's what disgusts many people here about Palin.

Shooting from the air

Hell, we shoot people from the air in Iraq and Afghanistan and McCain happily bombed civilians from the air in Vietnam. It's all "sport" to the Republicans. If I could, I'd arm the bears and wolves with SAM's and even things out a bit.

On a deeper level, however, Palin's religious beliefs explain her willingness to shoot wildlife and rape the environment. "Religious" developers in Indiana, when asked about the damage malls and housing developments do to plant and animal life, will seriously tell you they are furthering God's plan to bring on the "end times". No joke.

Longing for end times and the return of Jesus does not spawn long term thinking. It may be interesting to see news stories about death cults a la Jonestown or Heaven's Gate, but how scary is it that religious fundamentalists may place "final reckoning" advocates in the White House? Nothing like nukes to bring Jesus back to earth.

Think this is

a dreadful practice to shoot any animal from a plane...Goes to judgement--just like putting a child at risk for a 8 hr plane ride after your water breaks...

Wow, I really didn't hate her before...

Now, I do.

re: yanking a fetus

You're right. I would have a problem "yanking a fetus" out of the womb at 7 months. With a vaccum, maybe...

@pacificaharry

Maybe you should find out what "abhor" means before posting.

The bum-rapping continues

Wolves have been treated as a aggressive predators forever. You will find comments even in Shakespeare's plays. In reality, wolves are shy and avoid confrontations with humans. They kill to eat. Does Sarah Palin?

Gov. Palin proves you don't have to have a dick to be one.

mantonat someone's losing a bet today

"I'm betting that neither Mr. Benjiman nor the majority of posters here have the background knowledge or education to have a valid opinion about predator culling" says mantonat, who assumes that those of us who keep up with enviromental issues do so for the sheer fun of it, all those cute polka-dot baby seals getting clubbed to death, what fun reading!

What a stoop to say that none of us actually have any real knowledge or a VALID opinion of predator culling, which, I reiterate, would not be necessary at all if there were any type of stable habitat left. To Mantonat: I majored in environmental studies you doofus! Overpopulation of any species in any ecosystem (including human overpopulation) is an indication of very poor planning and management. Predatory culling is just another indicator of a severely damaged ecosystem. Any kind of culling is indicative of this, because when an agency resorts to culling (besides for profit) it is because that species is running out of its food source. If its food source has been hunted to death, the predators start to die too. But I would love to be enlightened by Mantonat's vast knowledge of this, Predator Culling 101. Oh teach us wise one!

@rosemaryk

Glenn Greenwald and Andrew Leonard are pretty good. The rest are either highschoolers or propagandists.

I want Salon back the way it was beofre Joan Walsh turned it into a sleazy tabloid.

Besides, stupid people can be very entertaining. It's an easy and cheap way to fight stupidity and evil as well as plant some memes.

But really, 90 percent of these letter writers are boneheads.

Dead wolf Picture

For those of you who can't stand the picture of a dead wolf...Maybe you should take a look at some pictures from Iraq, that will give you some perspective on what's "horrible".

Its a dead wolf, shot by a hunter who cares only for the now. Its there to make a point. If you don't like dead wolves, do something about it.

But I must digress, most of the hunters I KNOW, are sensitive, and only leave behind foot prints if even that. And they only hunt for what the need.

So which is worse? A dead wolf hanging over the support beam of a prop plane, or a head blown all over the earth after a mortar his an unsuspecting 19 year old marine?

Prescilla Feral?

What a perfect name for this story...no wonder she supports the wolves - they raised her!

Panic from the lefty loonies converts to panic from the GOP

Since you brought up the topic of loonies, in Alaska they ban books and shoot wolves. In the lower 48, the right wing loonies shoot doctors. McCain better hope God doesn't send a vote of no-confidence by way of the right wing loonies. He has a tiger by the tail. Palin will be dictating the GOP platform. Remember, her whole life has been a colorful soap opera, a typical Alaskan American family, she has prevailed against the odds, why should it end now. McCain has opened Pandora's box and out jumped Hanna Montana err Sarah Alaska, the new media diva.

Bounty hunters beware

In California, the leading leftist state, if you kill a mountain lion you are rewarded. That has been going on long before we had a Republican Governor. (And it is related to the population of said lions -- waxing and waning.)

My large city lives in fear of coyotes killing our little dogs in their own backyards. I also have a personal fear that egrets will swoop down and eat my Koi. There are a couple of them who try to on a regular basis. If I shoot them to protect my Koi I will be breaking the law.

It would have been more helpful if the article had stated WHY Palin wanted to eliminate wolves, other than to suggest she is an animal hater and/or sadist.

Her position on creation education has been mis-stated ad infinitum. She has said she thinks it's up to the schools to decide if this theory should be taught in schools, and she will follow their conclusion, and she has no problem teaching it in religious classes, but not in science classes.

It's rather interesting to see the Democrats so fearful of losing an election this time around. Where was the defiance when Bush stole the 2000 and 2004 elections? Who among you brought up the actual Constitutional crisis of 2000 when the Supreme Court barged into that election? Ms. Walsh, how many articles did you write on the illegality of that situation?

Ohio, oh! Ohio. Black boxes galore. Scientific evidence that the 2004 election was stolen. Did all of these STRONG blogocrats hop on that bandwagon? Not enough to be noticed by this Democrat.

Is it even faintly possible that the reason behind the smears and fears of Palin might be related to her gender? For it does seem strange to me that the most popular, most widely read, most influential blogocrats managed to "vet and endorse" an unknown man almost immediately after he told us he wanted to be president, meanwhile dashing the aspirations of another woman vastly more suited for the job who would have won this election without the help of Mr. Obama either before, during or after the Convention.

There are none so blind as those who will not see. You've fucked up big time and it's now CYA by attacking a Republican for being a Republican! Morons.
