Her deadly wolf program

With a disdain for science that alarms wildlife experts, Sarah Palin continues to promote Alaska's policy to gun down wolves from planes.

Disturbed

What a vile human being, Sarah Palin is. My co-worker told me about this the other day, and I'm glad that Salon is spreading the word about this inhumane practice. As an animal lover, I'm uncomfortable with hunting in general (and yes, I realize the Michael Pollan-types of arguments that by not hunting, we are disconnected from the food chain)-- but this is just straight up disgusting.

I guess she only values human life.

oh my

Sarah, honey, count me OUT of your fan club if this is even half true.

Sunday, September 7, 2008 06:41 PM

Hmmmmm....

I wonder what her position on wolf abortion is?

What Repulses Me Most About this Nitwit

is her anti-science, anti-rational view of culture. She is a lot worse than Bush, something I did not think was possible. Bush has not been ant-science, just completely disinterested.

Pallen has a chip on her shoulder. She hates people of intellect who see her for the fraud that she is. I fear that she will turn the Patent Office into one of those mega-churches and force us all to pray our way out of the problems we face.

Sunday, September 7, 2008 06:42 PM

Even if there was science behind the activity...

...like, the need to cull a herd, the fact that she ENJOYS shooting wolves from airplanes and slaughtering dozens of caribou at a time (which she has bragged about getting a kick out of), is completely disgusting.

Deja Vu

Disregarding science that doesn't fit within your own nice little preconceived box. Where have I heard that before?

The first question of any interview of McCain or Palin should be:

"You've talked about change in terms of lobbying and ethics. That concerns how policy is made, not a policy unto itself. What are the policies of George W. Bush that you will reverse?"

Competition

I have no real opinion either way about hunting. There are as many motivations as hunters out there.

It seems to me, however, that if you have to get into an aircraft and shoot your 'competition' from above in order to 'level the playing field' you aren't necessarily looking to hunt. If you have to resort to 'cheating' in order to level the playing field then you may as well just go to the grocery store and buy your meat there because the challenge seems roughly the same.

It's not really a sport if you murder the competition, is it?

great for debate...

Biden should find one of the paws that was taken from a wolf as part of her advocated practice and set it on her podium at the beginning of the debate.

what a fucking bitch

but she's pro life

Oh Salon... WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO REALIZE??????????

While I agree entirely that everything about this woman's politics is vile, is this sort of article going to help elect a Democrat in November?

Seriously. Is it?

Because I can tell you, the less enlightened family members I have who think voting McCain/Palin may be a good idea don't give a shit about wolves.

Could Salon do some investigative reporting that will help win the media battle, and/or write some articles that will either help those of us who still care about the election to take some sort of concrete action?

Or if you're going to keep putting as your headlines little potshot pieces about Yukon Barbie, then at least get some psychologists in here to tell us shellshocked Democrats how to stop losing our minds, so that we can get ready for the defeat in November that is inevitable if the only thing progressive newsmagazines like Salon do is continue doing what you're doing.

This is war, Salon, and no matter how many articles you do describing her earmarks, or her dislike for wolves, or the proper method of caribou hunting, or the real story behind the Bridge to Nowhere, it contributes nothing, zippo, nada, squat to the battle.

How about some real investigating? How about some REAL reporting???????????????????

If it is the fate of the Eskimos, Alaska's biological family, that concerns Pallin, then she should return it to them.

The wolves and moose and the Eskimos lived in peace until Sarah and her ilk arrived with their high-powered rifles and dark urges to desecrate.

Losing my supper, guys

NOT COOL, EDITORS.

Seriously.

I did not enjoy being treated to a picture of a dead animal at the top of my page when I hit Salon. Much better to link to the pic from the article, or embed it in the article.

Not, not, not okay.

Oh behalf of wolves everywhere

Palin is a vile, hateful creationist monster.

The Republican war on science

All part of the overall Republican war on science.

Sunday, September 7, 2008 07:14 PM

I didn't think anybody could be worse than Bush...

...but "Peggy Hill" Palin takes the cake. She like the living embodiment of one of those "if they mated" gags on Conan O'Brien--behold the evil love child of George Bush and Dick Cheney! (With a dash of Donald Rumsfeld thrown in.) Anti-science, vindictive, full of blood lust, and a troopergate criminal to boot--yeah, let's put this woman in charge of the country's nuclear codes.

@Ancientassyrian

You said: "While I agree entirely that everything about this woman's politics is vile, is this sort of article going to help elect a Democrat in November?"

I have a lot of complaints myself about Salon's election coverage myself but I don't believe that it is Salon's fundamental mission to tailor articles to get the democrats in office in Nov. In fact nothing would get me to cancel my subscription faster that if they did!

I liked the article and am not really sure why you claim it isn't real reporting or is somehow incidiary to the Democratic cause.

Aerial Hunting is a Lucrative Business

That is why it is being encouraged.

Sunday, September 7, 2008 07:17 PM

Infuriating!!

I really don't like this woman! Putting a bounty on wolves paws? How gruesome!

Sunday, September 7, 2008 07:24 PM

@henri

Though I can understand your sensitivity to the photo of the wolf dangling from the plane, I don't think the pic was either graphic or trying to be sensational. I thought the picture underscored the message of the article and gave it more impact. It may not be what you wanted to see while eating dinner but it's the 'way it is' and I think it's good for people to see that.

Wolfslayer Barbie

Anything Wolfslayer Barbie wants is God’s plan. Wolfslayer Barbie knows what God wants.

God wants brave mighty hunters to chase wolves with airplanes until they drop from exhaustion.

Then God wants brave mighty hunters to shoot the mommy and daddy wolves.

Then God wants mighty brave mighty hunters to leave the wolf babies to die of hunger, God doesn’t want brave mighty hunters to waste ammunition.

Wolfslayer Barbie knows God’s mind.

God loves Wolfslayer Barbie.

Wolfslayer Barbie makes the Baby Jesus smile.
