Thank You Mr Olbermann

Since the election of 200 I have looked for a champion, someone in with access to the spotlight who would have the courage and integrity to speak the truth. I have found him. Thank you Mr. Olbermann for being the Champion, for raising your eyes to meet those of the rest of this country and speaking on all the topics that have cried out for truth for these long years. Thank you Mr. Olbermann for speaking for me.

Signing off

I agree with player00's sentiments, but I want to respond to the smarmy editorial comment introducing this video clip: "is that *his* signature?". When Olbermann first used Murrow's signoff, he paid homage to the originator and humbly admitted that he might fall short of that standard. But to me, he has clearly demonstrated his worthiness to carry on that man's tradition, and deserves the implied mantle. -- Rob

Another KO!

Keith Olberman is a one-man wrecking crew, speaking the truth without fear! Rock on my friend.

Fear of hope

While watching Mr. Olbermann's address to the president I found myself unexpectedly choking back tears. With everything so rotten in American politics for the past 6 years, hopelessness has simply become the air I breathe. I am genuinely stunned when it springs to life, however briefly. Who was it who said, "To a man dying of thirst the first drops of water taste like sand."?

watch out

Keith Olbermann will very soon be a major voice to be listened to. He's the only with any balls. Once he's paved the way we may start hearing more voice their honest opinions as well.

Keep it up Mr. Olbermann.

I wish I could watch this whole thing

But my head exploded when Bush ironically said there was no comparison between "the behaviour of the United States of America and the action of Islamic extremists who kill innocent women and children in an understand-to-to achieve an objective."

I wonder what trail of thought he was following when he made that verbal misstep?

Yes, indeed...

I find nothing wrong with KO borrowing ERM's sign-off. He's earned the right to use it.

Maybe a voice as strong as this can indeed pull together the liberal factions that are running around like the revolutionaries in "Life of Brian" and give them a cohesive vision to combat the cohesive power-grabbing, wealth-accumulating vision of the right. Dog nose we're not getting a unifying voice from any of the current crop of politicians. Go, Keith!!

Murrow's Legacy Found At Last!

My mouth dropped open when I saw Olbermann read Bush the riot act on national television. Could this have been happening? Could someone in the media have the chutzpah to finally air the truth about Geroge Bush and do so in such an intelligent way? My only misgiving was that Olbermann's broadcast wasn't seen in every classroom in the country.

Olbermann shouldn't receive the slightest criticism about his attempt to educate the rest of us about the true nature of George Bush. At least he's doing it. Sure, comparisons with Edward R. Murrow were bound to arise but Murrow, like Olbermann, went beyond courageous and said the unspeakable at a time when government intimidation was rampant. It's good and very healthy for all of us to hear someone in the media today with that same kind of courage. (At a press conference once, Dan Rather went up against Richard Nixon but instead of support from his media colleagues all he received mostly were charges of unprofessionalism.) It's unfortunate there aren't more Olbermanns around. He makes the establishment press look like the 'respectful' sheep they are.

He's drunk. "Itcchss shimply unaccheptable...." blah blah blah. I actually almost feel sorry for the man.

Why Is The Editor So Snarky?

(Wait, is that "his" signature?)

No, of course it isn't. And Olbermann has explained this time and again. Here is the direct quote from his commentary following Rumsfeld's claim that we critics of this administration (a majority of America), are "morally confused" and the equivalent of appeasers to Nazi Germany:

"Although I presumptuously use his sign-off each night, in feeble tribute, I have utterly no claim to the words of the exemplary journalist Edward R. Murrow.

But never in the trial of a thousand years of writing could I come close to matching how he phrased a warning to an earlier generation of us, at a time when other politicians thought they (and they alone) knew everything, and branded those who disagreed: “confused” or “immoral.”

Thus, forgive me, for reading Murrow, in full:

“We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty,” he said, in 1954. “We must remember always that accusation is not proof, and that conviction depends upon evidence and due process of law.

“We will not walk in fear, one of another. We will not be driven by fear into an age of unreason, if we dig deep in our history and our doctrine, and remember that we are not descended from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to associate, and to defend causes that were for the moment unpopular.”

And so good night, and good luck."

Got It Now?

Is that the alarm clock ringing... has this all been a nightmare that began in 2000?

Eloquent, powerful and quite refreshing. If only our politicians from either party were as bold and well spoken, I might have more faith in the future of our government. With men like Olbermann I see hope again.
