I thought this was worth transcribing:

[Sunset on a beach, apparently filmed on the West Coast rather than Connecticut. An extremely soothing female voice-over:]

"Joe Lieberman thought you might enjoy a break from Ned Lamont's negative attacks. So just sit back, and and think about...good stuff. Like Senator Lieberman saving jobs, improving health care, and keeping us safe. Eighteen years of honest leadership. There's nothing negative about that."

[Segue into still photo of Lieberman]

"I'm Joe Lieberman, and I approved this message."

  • Hypocrisy

Demonizing your opponent by claiming he's being negative is a sleazy but time-honored political practice. It requires a large degree of chutzpah (which Joe has in abundance), and a certain contempt for the intelligence of the voting public - if they notice that you're the one being negative, after all, they might punish you for it.

The modern Republican Party has developed that technique into an art form, and Joe seems to be taking a page from their book. Witness a recent article from the Journal Inquirer ( http://www.journalinquirer.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=17128067&BRD=985&PAG=461&dept_id=161556&rfi=6 ), "New Lieberman TV ad prompts rapid response from Lamont camp":

"The idea of the Lamont campaign posing as guardians of the truth has about as much receptivity as John Karr heading the FBI," [the Lieberman campaign spokesman] said, referring to the man who offered the now-discredited confession to killing JonBenet Ramsey.

"The Lamont campaign is showing its true colors by going negative in response to an advertisement pointing out their negativity," he added. "They couldn't make our point better for us."

Did you notice? In one breath the spokesman compares Ned Lamont to a famous pervert, child pornographer, and possible child molester...and in the next breath, complains that LAMONT is the one who is being negative.

It's a stunning display of hypocrisy, but more than that, it really speaks volumes about their opinion of the intelligence of the voters that they're aiming at.

  • so the point of the setting sun is...

that Joe Lieberman's time in office has come to an end?

  • It's "bass", not "base"

    I mean, come ON now...

  • Going Negative

Well, I will go negative so that Lamont won't have to. Joe, you blew it. You are a joke, a loser, a blight; repugnant and disgusting.

So we're supposed to just sit back and think about you saving jobs, improving health care and keeping us safe? Why? Are you trying to say that after "Eighteen years of honest leadership" this time, THIS TIME, you are finally ready to get around to doing some of those things?

You pompous jellyfish, you delusional chimp; we all know by now that this administration and this war, and everything connected with it, from the lies to the planning to the amorality of continuing — the whole mishegas — is a giant shit sandwich served on a moldy and crusty month old bun. Why do you continue to insist that all we need to do is take bigger bites and stand behind the person who served it to us? How the fuck do you intend to "keep us safe" when you refuse to challenge — and I mean challenge in a spitting mad "fuck you, this bullshit stops here and now" way — the people whose only purpose in this life is to absorb, control and wield power for their own aggrandizement? Can it be you still detect any degree of good intentions in their stated goals and actions? What is wrong with you?

You need to go, Joe. You seriously need to drop this race, if for no other reason than that after five years of total bullshit, you still don't seem to understand that there is no middle ground, no accord, no bipartisanship to be had anymore. Seriously, man, don't you know that? How can you not know that?
