It's great to see someone finally step up and say what most of the country has been thinking. I'd have to admit that I've thought about what I'd say if I ever ran into our President but I could not have matched Colbert in terms of wit and courage. WOW! Not many people can stare down powerful people without so much as a blink. I would like to see how he would have fared against Rove, Cheney, and the rest of the pathological bullies we hav allowed to wreak havoc upon our country. Then again, it's doubtful that these people are even CAPABLE of feeling shame, remorse or accountability.
It's long past time that someone had the courage to speak the tragically funny truth about this administration and the cow-towing lackluster Washington media that pretend to be journalists - and to the naked emperor's face no less! I almost felt sorry for the president, except our country is so thoroughly mangled thanks to his watch, I find it to be an elegant and fitting retribution, the liberal comedic version of "shock and awe". I'm a pro-life democrat fed up with this administration's multiple jab-wounds to our country, giving democratic principles and even the pro-life agenda it supports a bad name by the simple act of being a part of this admimistration. Kudos to the brave and brilliant Colbert!
A free press is the central core of Democracy, without a free press, you do not have a democracy! It is about time that someone pointed out the inconsistencies of this administration and the reluctance of the media to take on the white house.
Who controls the media?
Wow, how did he sneak in? George hasn't heard truth like that since he took office. The predominantly Europian media, only reports crap because they don't want to offend their ad customers. I know, I worked with them for years. The atrosities in the Sudan barely seem to rate a mention. If the Bush administration were sincere about saving a people from genocide they would be there, but oh I forgot, there's no oil there.
I appreciate his courage and directness. What a breath of fresh air in this dank media world. Between the Administration diluting womens rights and the media ignoring them I just wish Colbert would add a joke to his "roast".
As the "Right" christians want me "barefoot and pregnant back in the kitchen", of course only if I am afford to stay home we should refer to them as pro-birth, not pro-life. Because afterall once you are here you are on your own unless "by the grace of God" you are born to a economically unchallenged family.
ERA - we won't go back to the butchers.

Colbert was mildly amusing, and said a lot of things we're all glad were said with W in the room. Why is this still on the front page?
All this talk of whether Colbert was funny or not is driving me insane! That should not be the point of what he did. Whether it was funny or not, he spoke many truth's that so many of us have wanted to say to Bush's face but have not had the chance. He did something that the entire media has been terrified to do... point out just how absurd our current political environment is... and he did this in front of the media, the highest government officials and on national television! Sure, he may not have been funny (though I thought he was), but focusing on that when what he did accomplished so much more is unfortunate.
i couldn't even finish watching the video it was so painful. Colbert was brilliantly funny as always. He is one of a kind. But even I, stridently anti Bush, had trouble with Colbert shooting off those jokes right in front of the people he was blasting. Of course they should have expected it - but still. I almost feel like Colbert should have declined the invitation. I would never want to see him tone it down, and it just seems inappropriate to do it to the president's face. maybe I'm just a sissy.
This was indeed a brilliant, savage performance, and appears to have flown over the heads of some at the dinner, and cut a little too close to the bone for others. I'm glad I was able to see it after the fact.
Stephen Colbert is a modern day David. The courage he displayed at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner is amazing. He demonstrated that he is not afraid of the Leader of the Philstines a.k.a., "W". The "slings" Colbert threw at "W" were accurate and timely. We can now persue the Philistines out of D.C. and rejoice for the victory of truth over tyranny.
Watching the reaction shots of reporters seated in the room, I'm somehow reminded of the blank expressions and flashing, beeping lights of the fembots in "I, Mudd" (classic Star Trek) when their processors locked. Stephen Colbert seems to be Kirk, phrasing the famous brain-locking conundrum: "Everything I say is true. (Now listen: ) I am lying."
The MSM's reply: "BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP..."
Once again, Colbert hits the nail on the head. I certainly hope it woke up some of our sleeping press corps. I hope it shamed them into doing their jobs. With all the corruption and missteps in this administration, is there anyone watching? Does anyone care but the American people?
Why is this still front page news? Salon needs to give the space to some other topic that really matters - not to some stale, hot-air, navel-gazing topic. Instead, Salon chooses to push its own agenda and force-feed the Colbert piece. How lame.
I was only able to view part of it. At 56K, it took more than 2 hrs to download and I only heard sound out of the Left Channel. Pretty sad. There were also sound drops and video fuzz. The recording was piss poor.
Of course the video quality was "fantastic" compared to the pimple puss we have in the Oval Office. That guy is almost as dumb as he looks. The look on his face while Colbert was talking about 2/3 of a glass was amazing. He didn't even understand the joke. He thought Colbert was talking about something else - not being insulted.
I guess someone explained to him that he was insulted since woosie C-SPAN pulled the video off On-Tube and a few other sites. I guess Karl Rove ordered that. They should've told them to pound salt!
S.Colbert, keep up the good work!
