Please, no "more to come"
Don't start posting every clip of this poor woman. It's sad and tragic. No matter what you thought of her.
-
Oh man, was that necessary?
The whole spectacle is sad enough without serving up the leftovers to snark at again.
-
Really
That was just fucking nasty, Puner.
-
I Agree
Let her rest in peace. God alone only knows she had none in her life. But I will say for the record that I wouldn't be surprised if foul play is first suspected and then proved, probably by the family of that octogenarian she married all those years ago.
-
Please
Be respectful and take this clip down.
-
So ...
None of you won the dead pool I guess.
-
TAKE...IT...DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Show an iota of class.
This is tackier and more low-rent than ANYTHING Anna Nicole ever did in her short, sad life.
I expect a LOT more from Salon than this.
Take it down.
-
Poor Taste
I agree with the other posters. Take the video down.
-
What was so nasty about the clip?
Considering all of her bizzare public appearances, that one was quite mild. He certainly could have chosen a worse one.
She lived a strange, but full, life. RIP.
-
Your choice of video clip
Honestly, what is the point of showing something like this today or any day for that matter. She's dead. Her life and her problems are going to be on display for the world to see for days now and Salon is better than this.
What purpose does it serve? Anyone who has been paying attention at all knows the woman was in trouble - the sad part is that no one close to her seemed to be doing much for her - but, really, take the video down.
Please.
-
wow
Dude, what kind of scum makes fun of someone right after they've died? It isn't funny. All it shows is a lack of compassion and basic humanity. For shame.
-
The real story is about the baby
Two men are fighting over paternity...now that paternity will also mean custody, who will blink first? A modern-day Solomon story.
RIP, ANS.
-
I won't even view the clip.
Why on Earth would I?
Would you want the entire world picking over and laughing at your worst moments recorded forever on video on the day you died?
Take down the clip.
-
Yes, KStone
He could have chosen a worse one. So you're giving the little shit points for restraint?
-
Worst Moments?
No, not at all. Perhaps you should watch the clip. All things considered, it was fairly generic and probably one of her better recent moments.
-
Have Some Decency
Hey there....
this shouldn't be on Salon.com (or anywhere, ust now, for that matter).
I'm sure you're far smarter and, in all ways, just better-in-all-sorts-of-ways, than A.N.
Smith ever was.....
But, she's dead (within the past 24 hours, I gather)........and you're just another gradstoodinty-smart-ass.
I hope this video goes off Salon.com very quickly. I haven't read the other letters, but I hope I'm not the only person who is utterly taken aback to find that you make fun of a dead woman because you think she's stupid.
quite sincerely,
David Terry

"Sadly"?
"Sadly"?? Are you fucking kidding me?
Where do you guys get off with that fake-sympathetic, hand-wringing word? If you had any true sympathy for this woman, you wouldn't be dredging this crap up again. She's freaking DEAD. Have some goddamn respect, for gods' sakes!
But that's Salon for you. Always first on the high road.

Portrait of Vulgarity
Smith committed her life to excess and vulgarity. She served as a disgusting role model to young Americans, acting so proud of the in-your-face vulgarity she consistently displayed, quite vocally too. She was no Christie Brinkley. She wasn't a natural beauty and she had no class at all. She was an over-madeup, overstuffed vulgarian, red lipstick smeared all over her always-open mouth and her 800ml saline created breasts forever shoved together between her arms for a please-make-me-a-star camera shot. The older she got the worse she got too.
I'm sorry she's gone, sorry for the baby, certainly would never have wished it, and I hope she's in a good place. But having dedicated her life to cheap vulgarity, we don't need to call a pig a rose. ANS was cheap, excessive, morally bankrupt and never failed to take the easiest option.
That she ever got so much publicity is a sad statement on the country in so far as I'm concerned.
-
Hey Joan! What the fuck?!?!?!
WOW
How can you allow as the FUCKING EDITOR this nasty, tasteless and mean "contribution" to exist in the same place as the always great commentary and nuanced thinking of Andrew Leonard? I've been paying for a subscription for as long as I can remember and this a low I'd never thought I'd see.
-
A SALON LOW POINT
Yes, take it down now. The woman was occasionally quite humorous. Maybe you could find a better clip... posting this one at this time is in extremely poor taste.
-
Once more: take it down
It's 10:12 pm MST, and the damned video clip is still available on Salon via Video Dog. Add my voice to the clamor: please take the thing down. Leave ANS's corpse to Defamer, TMZ and the other media vultures, and show some class.

"A Portrait of Vulgarity"??
That's what they wrote about Marilyn Monroe, though in more muted terms. I'm not going to compare the two beyond that, but I have an open letter to the "good riddance" crowd:
Have any of you heard of the "Internet Wayback Machine"? It's part of the Internet Archive Project, which catalogues EVERYTHING on every website on earth. Now fast-forward 15 or so years, when Anna's daughter is still a girl. She pulls up this page (and others like it) and what does she see? Her dead mother's name being dragged through the mud to the braying of the crowd.
How nice. How very, very nice.
I don't care how "vulgar" she might have been. Now she belongs to the ages; let her sins go to the Devil and her soul go to God. Say a prayer for her, a woman who couldn't run as fast as others, who like so many lost girls out there, orphans of a bankrupt culture, came to believe that her only way out was to peddle herself to the Thunderdome.
May God have mercy on her, and on all of us for cheering her on when she was in her prime.
