Sean Hannity called Howard Dean a "former Klansman"
I think Hannity meant to refer to Robert Byrd when he talked about "we have the former Klansman who's the head of the Democrats." But Robert Byrd is not "the head of the Democrats", Howard Dean is.

Not so smooth without a script
Coulter's routines have always come off as very canned and stale. Watching her inarticulate, repetitive defence here, one wonders where all the famous charisma has gone. I think that she knows her goose may be cooked, but is defiant to the end (at least I hope the end). The right have figured out that Ms. Coulter's prominance as a spokesperson is very likely to alienate moderate republicans as well as socially liberal conservatives. I'm thinking that we may see a little less of this tense monkey in the future. Can't say I'll miss the rolling eyes, brittle, barking laugh; she's all false confidence and grinding teeth.

Why do we assume the worst? Maybe she was just thinking of a bundle of firewood, which is what the word means in England. Someone should point this out to Hannity before his next show.

Oh, another error by Hannity
Hannity claimed that it was just Democrats and liberals who criticized Trent Lott in 2002, when, in fact, many prominent Republicans and conservatives criticized him, and called for him to resign as Majority Leader, which he did.

i feel icky...
...and yet i am forced to 'defend' ann(thrax)'s idiotic comments in two regards:
1. i am an absolutist when it comes to free speech: she (like anyone) should have the right to say WHATEVER bullshit they want to say, PERIOD...
(that she is correctly judged a jerk for doing so is the corrective action 'our' (sic) media *should* take... she should have been relegated to the reichwing blogs a LONG time ago for crimes against society, THIS particular tempest in a teacup notwithstanding...)
2. 'faggot' IS -in fact- a schoolyard/lockerroom taunt that is used to deride someone as a 'wuss', 'chicken', 'wimp' or other derogatory term meaning 'less-than-a-manly-man', it is NOT exclusively and ONLY meaning teh gay...
(for that matter, 'faggot' can also mean a chunk of firewood...)
foaming-at-the-mouth pwogwessives who are excoriating her for her 'anti-gay' remark are off the mark and just making fools of themselves... i have no doubt she intended her slur to be both anti-edwards, dismissive of his manliness, *and* -as a bonus!- a bitch-slap to teh gays...

in public debate of society/gummint issues, there IS a place for deriding your opponents on personal or other grounds; IF that is ALL you have, THEN you are a twit... IF your insults or sarcastic comments are appended to cogently argued points, THEN you are a wit...

I think liberals responding in a knee-jerk "doesn't she suck" manner is exactly what Coulter wants. It perpetuates the infantile shit-flinging game between the left and the right that she absolutely wants to encourage. After all, her career depends upon partisan distrust of the other side (for both sides!). Let her say whatever she wants; after all, this is America and we have a constitutional right to talk like 14-year-old message board trolls, if that's what we want to do.

Defended? Whatever
This is just Damage Control at its most obvious. Let's all start using the N word, and just say that its people formly from Niger or Nigeria? F word or N word the intention is the same. And as I've been posting along here, I'm gay, and it's totally offensive to me. And she meant it. I think I'm going to start process mapping right wingers. Somebody needs to start disecting this to find out where the apex of it is. I mean she keeps getting invited back to these things. And everybody who shows up is endorsing her, even though they say they aren't. Cheney, and the rest of the R candidates, save McCain who knew better, don't stop her from coming, and infact probably invited her themselves. She's devisive, and that's why they need her so much.
Did Cheney's daughter care? Probably not, but then Apples don't fall from trees do they. Ann apparently has a gay brother, where is he in all of this? Same place as Cheney's daughter no doubt. Cheney, who when talking about his daughter, says she is off limits. No she isn't if she works on his campaigns. She deserves to be examined. If she had nothing to do with his campaigns, I'd feel differently.
The Americans who don't believe in what the Republicans are doing are behaving just like battered wives. These men beat up their wives to hide that fact that they're huge cheats etc. They beat them down for all that they themselves are not. I completely feel like I can understand Black people in America today. I just can't take it any more. No, I won't take it anymore.

Brief lesson in constitutional law
Contrary to what Pete and Art Guerilla imply, no one is proposing to repeal Ms. Coulter’s First Amendment rights. But the First Amendment also means that we are allowed to respond to her words with our words. By criticizing her, we do not violate the Constitution.
