Watching Glen Beck have a go against Keith Olbermann was fascinating, and I appreciate Salon.com bringing this to my attention.
Still, in my expert opinion, Olbermann is no Murrow.
Thanks for prompting me to write something I've been stewing about for weeks.
Harry Shearer owes his fans (I've counted myself among them up to now) an "apology of the week" for hawking his book on this turd Glenn Beck's radio show a few weeks ago.
I was radio dial-surfing and heard Harry. Stopping on that station I eventually realized he was on Beck's show. They yucked it up about Harry's book, his time on SNL and the Simpsons, and his movies. Funny though, I never heard them mention that Harry has a show on NPR called "Le Show".
From what I know of Beck, the moron probably wasn't aware of that - but if he was, maybe there was some sort of agreement not to mention it. I doubt that any of Beck's listeners who might consider buying Harry's book would do so if they new about that Frenchy-named show on that damn liberal NPR. Actually, I can't believe Beck's listeners would buy any book except maybe his or Coulter's.
Maybe Beck and Harry are friends from way back, but I doubt it. And there's no way that Harry wouldn't know about Beck's idiotic, insulting, bigoted questioning of Michigan Congressman Ellison(?) - and Beck's idiotic, insulting, bigoted, no-talent self. (Seems like I also heard that Beck insulted Katrina victims - people that Harry supposedly champions - but I didn't hear that myself and I don't recall the details.)
The only reason I can think of for him to go on Beck's show was publicity for his book.
As Harry would say: gotta move product, huh, babe?
And by the way, what the hell is wrong with "CNN Headline News" that they would put - and keep - Glenn Beck on the air?

Not funny.
Let's not get obstreperous, ok?
And hey, thanks for all the wonderful, free publicity! I can't thank you enough!!

...I can comment on the clip.
The idea that a midget like Beck has anything at all to say about Olbermann is such a crock of shit it's almost beyond belief.
I quit watching Headline News when they hired Glenn Beck. If I wanted to listen to garbage like his, I would watch Fox.
Say what you will about Olbermann, but he's a better TV personality than Nancy Grace, Glenn Beck, and Anderson Cooper combined. If you think Olbermann is somehow more overrated than Anderson Cooper, you're nuts. And the best thing you can say about Nancy Grace is that if you put her, Cooper, and Beck on a submarine for a month, she'd be the only one left when you opened it up.
Without considering Beck's politics, or the bigoted things he has said on occasion (he has said bigoted things; framing a bigoted statement as a question does not let you off the hook for saying it), let's just talk about his presentation and and the way he talks. I personally can't stand it, and just don't understand how anyone can tolerate it for more than a minute or two. He has this supremely smug and self satisfied manner that pretty much oozes into everything he says (on TV, the constant, shit-eating grin does not help). I feel like if Glenn Beck opened his show by announcing that he was going to pilot a spacecraft into an asteroid that was approaching earth in order to destroy it, if he described in detail how he was going to sacrifice his life for the good of humanity, after 30 seconds, I'd be thinking: "Get in the Goddamn rocket already, you little prick."
