Sadistic Swill

Someone on this site recently wondered in print why "24"s right-wing producer created a show with a "subversive" narrative - Jack Bauer sticking it to the man. Well, the REAL purpose of this show in my opinion is to help innure the public to the idea of extra-judicial violence and torture. Perhaps most disgusting was one of Jack's colleagues reaction to her own torture: "Oh, it was necessary..no problem-O!"

The people who make this show are a bunch of sick fascist fucks, and that includes Keifer Sutherland.

I don't watch, but wonder where the FCC is?

Did I just see a woman get her knee shot off BY THE GOOD GUY? Where the fuck is the FCC? You can get fined $500,000 for saying the word "fuck" but you can torture a woman by shooting her in the knee with impunity? What the hell is wrong with this country?

Violence, shmiolence

Okay, what is so special about a Fox station pimping one of its shows on the news? You're telling me the major networks don't do it, too?

At any rate, they do it better and more intelligently. It's not the violence that makes this show work, it's the timing. The show takes the metaphorical ticking clock of every well-made thriller (film or book) and foregrounds that. You're actually watching the minutes tick away, and that's what's the hook here, as well as the season being a day's events.

I'm a mystery novelist and reviewer and I love this show for the script, the acting, and the fantasyland CTU (notice all the blue tones?), but I wish it told us what torture really yields in terms of useful intelligence according to experts in the field: very little.

shocking

I don't have access to local new broadcasts (satellite dish and I'm cheap-thank goodness for public radio and yahoo weather) and I have to say,I'm glad. I can not beleive this short of crap is being shown. I thought it had to be a paroday from Jon Stewart. ick. I'm in a Sinclair town, so I can't say I'm surprised, tho but it explains a lot.

All American Violence

The most sureal thing about this clip is the "journalist" non stop smiling and peppy voice as she talks about violence, violence and more violence, looking for all the world as if she serving up a plate of cookies with a tall glass of milk. Violence as American as apple pie.

Did any one else notice

Did anyone else notice that when the anchor says "Fox Five Toni Senecal" it sounds like "Fox Fox Toni Senecal"?
