What about that exteremly long tracking shot on the beach in Atonement? Was it so off-the-chart in technical accomplishment that it will earn the votes of fellow DPs or was it so over-the-top, look-at-me that it distracted from rather than added to the movie and thus will lose the votes of DPs?
What's with the tilted camera angles and cheesy music? Worst segment ever. Even Zacharek looked embarrassed...
Stephanie looks just like I would have imagined her. Nice that her ascerbic critic nature seems to mellow out when in person.
I disagree with the above sentiment. This is Salon's best video segment yet, which is not saying much. Reviewing cinema lends itself to video, unlike the youtube-esque political ramblings and inside-joke reactions of the other segments.
Also say what you will about the E! style editing of this segment, but at least they stayed away from the loud, cheesy continuous soundtracks and the redundant portrait-illustrated captions of the rest of Salon's low-budget video clips.
I generally agree with the overwhelming reader sentiment that Salon should be read and not seen or heard.
