The letters thread is now closed.

I'm ashamed to admit it...

...but I noticed at least two titles missing: Alien from L.A. and Harold & Maude. I couldn't get past the letter H for fear of having some sort of seizure.

Hmm

Grosse Point Blank?

The Man Who Would be King?

Face/Off?

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 11:13 AM

title sequence

I didn't see "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp" by Michael Powell.

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 11:33 AM

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

If that's not a major movie (compared to ones used, such as "Krull") than I don't know what is.

title sequence

i'd like to see chronological rather than alphabetical. who's up for it?

i have a headache.

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 11:57 AM

Pretty good, but where is Buster Keaton?

I'd call him pretty major, considering that The General is on most top films of all time lists. Didn't see a title screen for Steamboat Bill or The Navigator either. Sheesh.

Maybe it should be every major movie ever made with sound.

yours in eternal cynicism,

Stephen

Remember the Titans

There seems to be a jump from "Red" to "Requiem," which passes over "Remember the Titans," among others. I quit just after that, for the same seizure fear as the previous poster.

What have I done with my life?

The terrifying thing to me was that as the titles flashed by, the words "seen it" flashed through my mind in almost the same tempo as the music.

I also missed a few titles, but only a frame by frame study of the film would reveal if they are there or not.

out of order

The Mask of Satan is in the B's (for Beelzebub?). And not included are Blazing Saddles, Nashville and Notorious, but two of those might not meet the video compiler's definition of major motion picture.

missing movies

Gee, the very first movie that occured to me isn't in there. Beetlejuice. Surely it counts as a major motion picture if Brute man and Alligator People fit. I'm sure there's plenty missing.

missing title

Is Gone With The Wind missing?

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 01:50 PM

JFK, Nixon, Platoon

I think this guy missed some movies or hates Olver Stone...I watched the whole thing and did have a seizure...Was Seizure there? That was missing too...and Oliver Stone...

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 03:28 PM

Of course there are some missing.

The beauty is that if anything is missing, it wasn't "major".

Bedazzled (the original)? Batleship Potempkin? Life of Brian? Thirteen Monkeys? Tron? Flying Down to Rio?

Of course some are on there so briefly it is hard to see. I had to do as close as I could to frame by frame to find Forbidden Planet and MAN is it blurry.

Cute, but no cigar. They missed a TON.

Wednesday, March 1, 2006 04:14 PM

Broadcast News?

And Fried Green Tomatoes, which may not qualify as "Major" but was as major as some of the other things that popped up. Humiliating that these are the ones I thought to look for. I couldn't make it past F.

Missing Titles

Two I didn't see (although I didn't go through it frame by frame) were "The Ipcress File" and "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold", both great mid-60s spy thrillers.

Thursday, March 2, 2006 12:09 PM

A true title sequence

"Working Title" was made by a guy named cuechamp and this version is a rip-off. His site is down down but you can see a Google cache of it here.

The original version has the sounds from the original movies and is also mirrored here:

Powell & Pressburger

What have the makers of this compilation got against them? No "Red Shoes" or "Black Narcissus" or "Matter of Life and Death" or "The Life and Death of Col. Blimp". Every major movie? Not quite.

Still, great fun...

Thursday, March 2, 2006 05:52 PM

actually

if you watch it in a format that allows you to go true frame by frame-- as opposed to several frames at a clip-- you'll find most of the movies people are talking about here.

And it has My Science Project. So back off.

The Music

Isn't that some rendition or other of Santana's "Jingo?" I am not sure if the song is original with Santana, so maybe Santana's version is a remake of the original...

Wednesday, March 8, 2006 09:51 AM

Did anyone notice....

that Fanny and Alexander and Pulp Fiction were missing?

Wednesday, March 8, 2006 04:07 PM
