  • France, what's up?

Time to get a First Amendment, mon amis

  • I applaud this

I think we need draconian micromanagers and censors of everything because w/o the steel boot of some faceless committee of housewives on our throats, we would happily smoke meth with Satan while masturbating on a flaming pile of babies and bibles. And that would be bad.

  • Tracy, Good Video,...

But! Maybe you could have gone out and video-taped some skinny models, and interviewed them? Maybe you could have provided some evidence from pro-anorexia web sites and pro-anorexia activists?

You have a great opportunity to move into the video (/audio) journalism world here, but if you only stand there and read to us, you might as well just write, and we might as well just read.

  • hmmh

Well, webmasters can always move to Bermuda.

Seriously, I think this idea that 'as consumers' we can just be more educated or what not, is crap. We rely on the FDA, and if they fail us, we're poisoned. Consumers are little chicks with open mouths for 'consumer culture' and that's just the way we're wired.

The girls who fall prey to anorexia are obviously vulnerable. The notion that they will be 'intelligent consumers' is laughable. Furthermore this whole problem just gets worse and worse, so it's time to think seriously about regulation.

I suspect that France is leading in this area not because they like free speech less, but because they like women more, than Americans do.

My preference would be to regulate and penalize, but lightly, so that the regulatory hand is light.

What changed my thinking was Norway. They don't allow uses of images of women in decorating ads of any kind unless there is some real utility being demonstrated. That is because they take respect for women seriously.

  • You just aren't going to stop, are you?

The pointless, inane, reading-at-you videos are a permanent feature, aren't they?

    Why?

Why do you insist upon this? Why do you fail to see that this is much worse than no video at all? Do you even care? Is there some income stream that you are attached to, despite the disservice it creates for your readers?

    Seriously, why?

I really should abandon this web site. Joan Walsh is very proud of the way she has dragged it down from what it once was. That does not bode well for its future.

But leaving this site and never returning would mean giving up on King Kaufman. The other content I would really miss; This Modern World, The K Chronicles, Tom the Dancing Bug, and a few other things, are available elsewhere, although I would have to wait a little longer for some of them.

But I haven't been able to find King Kaufman anywhere else. And I would really miss him.

It is no coincidence that his videos are the only Salon-writer videos that are not detrimental to the writer's message. Maybe he will leave soon.

P.S. I don't know if Tracy Clark-Flory had anything worthwhile to say, because her high-school-level presentation skills preclude me from sitting through her reading what would be better presented in text form.

  • It's France

It's France...it's a country where they can put you in jail for saying nasty things about muslims...so what would you expect? Of course maybe you're one of those people who think everything in Europe is all peachy-keen compared to here in the U.S...but while visiting Paris be careful what you say and how you say it, or you may end up on trial with Ms. Bardot.

P.S. Don't pay any attention to those people who don't like the way you "read" your broadcasts...I think you're quite attractive sitting there like that.

  • Way to back up my point

Don't pay any attention to those people who don't like the way you "read" your broadcasts...I think you're quite attractive sitting there like that.

Because that is exactly what a feminist woman wants. Men who watch their videos because they look "attractive."
