Policy Content

That little comedy piece had zero policy content, putting it slightly ahead of Salon's policy in its political articles about Barack Obama(or any other candidate). Let's construct our own meter:

Policy Content Meter

Democracy Now

The Nation

-

-

-

PBS

-

-

The gentle purring noise my cat makes

-

-

SNL/NPR (tie)

Salon

ABC, NBC, CBS news

A slug

Fox News

An amoeba

There are two ways Salon could change its ranking; 1) Rename above the "trivial fluff about absolutely nothing -o-meter" or 2) actually start covering policy positions of candidates.

Oh yes, Salon please choose option (2) in the next month or my premium subscription is history. If anyone else would like to suggest other choices for the top of this meter please do so I have more alternatives once I dump my subscription. Topics such alternative avoid:

1. Hillary's star power

2. Barack's blackness

3. Barack's real-ness.

4. Dennis Kucinich and other "fringe candidates"--why should we care? Look--Hillary's got a great multimedia presentation!

Blackface Jesse Jackson

I'm guessing that SNL's makeup staff doesn't want Hammond to look like he's doing a blackface minstrel gig.

Monday, February 12, 2007 10:39 AM

That skit was hilarious! The best part was seeing Bill Clinton fairly high on the scale.

It was really funny, I loved it.

Monday, February 12, 2007 10:49 AM

Maybe for the same reason...

...his Jesse Jackson impression hasn't reached the level of "mediocre" yet---they can get by with crap, they don't have a lot of time, no-one expects the show to be _good_, so why bother?

Run Jessie

I thought Hammond looked more like Alex Trebek than Gabe.

Monday, February 12, 2007 01:12 PM

Well, That Was A Real Piece of Shit

I was hoping that the show would gradually get better now that Scarface has left the scene, and it seemed to be going that way. And now this. Ugh.

Rob, try to be nice...

I was no fan of Tina Fey's run at SNL, but that's no reason to call her a name like that. I think you'd feel pretty bad if people who disagreed with you called you mean names based on your physical appearance.

Please try harder to not act like such a freeper.

Monday, February 12, 2007 05:03 PM

"Nice"??

I take umbrage with your reference to me as a "freeper." Those fucking gasbags rant and rave about nothing at all most of the time. Tina Fey - aka "Scarface" - nearly single-handedly ruined a cultural institution. Such a crime does not call for "nice."

Monday, February 12, 2007 06:13 PM

Freepers have their excuses, too.

It's a cowardly way of not taking responsibility for your actions. Yes, it's Tina Fey's fault that you make fun of her physical blemishes. Right.

To suggest that Tina Fey "almost single-handedly" destroyed SNL is to ignore Lorne Michaels and the level of writing there to begin with. It also pretends that the show didn't have a long reputation for being mostly not funny for years before she took her position.

And again, to suggest that because Tina Fey was head writer for a show you didn't like and therefore deserves to have her physical appearance made fun of is (in full freeper tradition) petty, childish, and downright mean.

Notice that I'm not calling attention in a mean way to your weight problem, which is irrelevant to the fact that you are not a nice person (and despite the fact that, unlike a scar, it's well within your ability to control).

I hope you figure out whatever it is that makes you so miserable, or if you already have, find a way to muster your courage and address the problems head on, instead of working so hard at being thoroughly unlikeable.

Oh, and Rob, that youtube video of yours...

...is something everyone should watch so that your opinions regarding comedy can be even more speedily disregarded.

First of all I have little or no respect for chickenshits who snipe while hiding behind Internet anonymity. Second, your bringing up my weight - boo-fucking-hoo - completely undermines your chivalry vis-a-vis Tina Fey. Last, your ignorance of the history and internal politics of SNL is as thorough as it is ludicrous. SNL has had many bad years. Here they are:

80/81 - the "Ayatollah Doumanian" year. This was followed by three years of off and on excellence with cast members Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, Tim Kazurinksy, etc.

85/86 - Michaels's return, blew it with the cast (except Lovitz and Miller), rebounded the next year with Carvey, Hartman, Hooks, Sandler, Meyers, etc. Also, Franken and Davis back as producer/writer/performers.

97/98 to present day - Tina Fey is head writer and co-producer with Michaels. During this time the show almost literally became execrable.

I was a long-time (78 - 98) FAN of SNL. I LOVED that show. It was an institution, in the best sense. And Fey was substanially responsible for destroying it. The current cast includes some genuinely talented and funny people, Andy Samberg. These people were ill-used during her tenure, when used at all. Meanwhile, the untalented and obnoxious Tracy Morgan got more and more air time. And gee, now he's with Fey on "30 Rock." Talk about kissing The Woman's ass. For all these things her facial blemish - among other things - is fair game.

Thanks for the dime-store psychoanalysis. Here's some of my own: If my opinions are so risible, why do you even bother responding? Hmmmm??? I must be serving some purpose in your life. I wonder what that could be?? And as for my YouTube clip, I've gotten both good and bad feedback, most of the good feedback from professional comedians. And it took me a whopping five minutes to think up and post that clip.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007 10:11 AM

I respond, Rob,

because I genuinely feel sorry for you.

But don't worry, I won't again. I suspect it will take a near-death experience to wake you to the reality that people don't like you. Best of luck.

Hilarious!

This has the potential to be one of the most interesting (and entertaining) presidential primaries in history. Perhaps it shall be one of the most interesting elections as well.

Darrell Hammond not black enough for you?

Darrell Hammond's strength, as with any good impressionist, is in capturing the voice and mannerisms of his subjects. Sure, makeup helps, but good impressionists don't always use it. And, this not being the 1920's, blackface makeup ain't none too popular these days. Your suggestion that Hammond should blacken up is ludicrous.
