Salonites don't like criticism...or spouts of editorial jism.
However, the letter I posted to point it out has disappeared, as did a letter i posted to the macaraoni-and-cheese discussion the other day. Whassup??
People laugh at him in a pavlovian mass-response to the marketing hype surrounding the guy. But I will admit that a few of his early jokes were amusing, and showed potential. Then he became an arena comedian and all was lost.
I found it mildly funny (not knee-slapping hilarious, but I was amused enough to watch through the whole clip), and as a Barack fan and neighbor (a few blocks down!) I didn't find this to be a Fox-ian jab at Obama. Let's not be so sensitive.
As for the Dane Cook rip-off, having not seen more than a few minutes' worth of his act, I didn't see it as a stolen bit. But on the subject of Dane Cook, now that's a comedian whose humor I really don't get. That and I don't get his following. It doesn't make sense to me. I'm absolutely puzzled by it. The guy is not funny.
It's just a hit piece on Obama a shows a kind of political ignorance on MAD TV level, a FOX program. Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert that ain't.
And Salon mngt runs it without a critical thought, of course. Anything for clicks.
A little long, and the actor's impression sounds more like David Brinkley than Obama, but the ideas are funny and I watched the whole thing (my attention-span is short with these online clips).
and not very funny.
