But they're not.
...like you, they've written comedy professionally and they know people who are stand-up comedians, so, doesn't it follow that, like you, they also "know" what's funny and what isn't?
Unless, of course, what's funny is subjective, you know, different people laughing at different things. C'mon! You know it is! Admit it! Admit it, I say!

And I just might bite.
Funny is funny. There are many styles of funny, but funny is funny. Perfect comparison/contrasts: The Marx Brothers and The Ritz Brothers; Curly and Curly Joe DeRita; "I Love Lucy" and "Donna Reed"; Lenny Bruce and Shecky Green; Mort Sahl and Joey Bishop; "The Flinstones" and "The Simpsons"; Freddie Prinze Sr. and Carlos Mencia; Nichols & May and Dennis & Dave; SNL '75 - '79 and Fridays '79 - '81.
The guys who made the "Grandpa" clip were aping "The Kids in the Hall", but they weren't FUNNY. MadTV apes the glory days of SNL, and they ARE funny.
And then there is taste, good and bad. People with bad taste think Larry the Cable Guy is funny. People with good taste don't. Simple, irrefutable. And don't blame me, I'm just the messenger.
