Why?

What I never understood, is how pine tar helps the batter. Does a sticky substance make the ball go further? It's funny how in that long segment never pondered that question--what is the rule for? The kind of thinking that allows the US to go into Iraq with no reason. But I digress..

ALso, did Canadian snowboarder Ross Rebagliati benefit from smoking pot?
