"Runway's" fifth -- and final? -- winner

Did Korto's vibrant, unique looks, Leanne's aqua waves of same or Kenley's flocked retro kaleidoscope rock Fashion Week?

Korto

I really, really, wanted her to win, too. And I loved her clothes. But when Leane's came out, I thought, hmm, those look like actual designer clothes. As for Kenley, blah. I was ticked at Jerell (or however you spell it) for not getting into the finals.

But Leane is young, too, accomplished, skilled, and I can't be down on her for being happy. I just wish Korto could have won, too. Wasn't her family darling?

I love this show!

It was really easy to pass up the debate last night to watch this finale. I was so glad to see Kenley be "aufed" - she really needs a reality check. I would have been happy with either Korto or Leanne, but I did love Leanne's final collection. It's hard to know what the clothes really look like from just TV - I would have loved to have seen Korto's line up close.

I hope this isn't the last season of Project Runway, but who knows?

They need to take a break is all....

The talent pool this go 'round just wasn't very deep. I think they need to take a couple of seasons off and let the waters refresh with some young new innovators.

Where are the adults?

This group as a whole was the most immature of any of the five. And, it was frustrating, after the last group of seasoned experienced designers, most of who were already working for other NYC houses, to see this year's amateurish antics. BUT, I guess they decided that immature is good TV.

I'm really glad that Korto and Leanne made it to the top three - they were the most mature of the lot. I think it was a toss-up, but don't cry for Korto - she will get many opportunities out of this with her gorgeous jewelry and gowns. Like everyone else, I think Kenley needs a spanking. And Jerell would have been great on the runway, but I think they wanted a villain at the end instead of three nice guys. Such is reality tv, even in the quality shows.

Korto

Korto got robbed. Her clothes were so beautiful, so full of life, that they literally lifted my spirit as they came down the runway.

Leanne's petals started to register as gimmicky to me after about the 4th version of them, and I was sure that the judges' remarks about being uncertain of her ability to go beyond them would have put her in second.

I'm sure Korto won, as far as millions of watchers were concerned.

The missing guest judge

Let me get this straight. JLo pulls out right before the final runway show with a "foot injury" and then 2 days later participates in a triathlon. What the hell? It's really a shame because having Tim Gunn fill in just didn't feel right given his mentor role on the show.

Project Runway...I'm hooked

After sneering at Project Runway for years, I finally watched it this season, as was instantly hooked.

Although I am a guy who knows nothing.....nothing.....about fashion design (2 strikes against me?), there were three things that drew me in:

  • The personalities. Suede....Stella the biker chick......Kenley the brat.....Leanne, the cute, nerdy girl.....
  • The judges. They knew what they were talking about. (How can you not love Tim Gunn?) And I looked forward to hearing Heidi Klum say, in her vaguely Nazi German accent: You're out."

The designs. The challenges were fascinating.....design something out of household materials...design for a bunch of drag queens....I learned so much about fashion design from this show without even knowing I was learning it.

And, by the way, Leanne's line had coherence and unity, but Kenley should have won. That girl is a genius with color.

I'm hooked. I'll be there next season.....

Heartbroken Korto Fan

I am heartbroken that Korto didn't win and only hope that she goes on to have a successful career in the fashion world. I thought her runway collection was beautiful. Leanne's collection was elegant and beautifully done but it was repetitious. And I think that Leanne put those "petals" on every outfit she did for the entire season although I may be wrong. I can't believe the judges didn't see that Korto was the more versatile designer. But I don't think they showed Heidi commenting on Kortos collection right before the announcement so this was kind of a "tell" for me. Kenley should have been kicked off long ago - not just for her designs or her snippy remarks to Tim, but she also visibly laughed while other designers were being criticized on several occasions. It's amazing to me that the judges let her show at Bryant Park.

PR 5

My thoughts on PR 5:

Kenley: They should have axed her for lousy design and poor sportsmanship a very long time ago. Despite the fact that PR is one of the classier reality/competition shows around, they are not immune to the good ol' villain/villainess cliche that abounds in reality TV, so that's why they kept the brat on.

Kortu: I'm glad that she was at least second place if not the winner. She had a beautiful vision all season. Loved her stuff and her attitude.

Leanne: I'm OK with her winning but I did find myself tired of her aqua/cream waves. However, what we see as repetition/overkill, the great fashionistas who call the shots (Kors, Garcia, et al) see as cohesion, and being true to your voice. Blah blah.

Maybe PR should take a break and regroup before coming back, if they come back.

Klume is not a nazi

Come on GW, calling someone a nazi because of their german accent is thoughtless at best and ridiculously insulting at worst. My german friends are REALLY tired of the nazi jokes. German does not equal nazi. Please cut it out. I know you were just making a joke but think about it a little bit more next time.

As far as the show goes, my wife got my hooked last season. Project Runway is the methadone to my hard core Top Chef addiction. I wish Tim Gunn was running for president.

Heather has it right in this column, I was heartbroken for Korto. I feel bad for her but she should realize her career is just starting and its off to a great start.
