  • On getting 'aufed'...

Kevin got tossed over Christian because he didn't finish his dress. There may have been other factors but not finishing your garment over and over has always been a great way to get tossed off Runway.

I think they picked Rami over Chris because they wanted more of a contrast in the final designs-- I suspect the producers always wanted a Jillian vs. Christian final show and didn't think either Chris or Rami would make it to final consideration.

Rami's weaving was beautiful but I thought his models looked terrible in their clothes-- for all he talked about the natural beauty of women, his models (who were just as skinny as Jillian and Christian's) looked pretty bulky and unpleasant in many of those outfits.

And am I the only one who thought Christian's 'don't eat' was more a joke about the fit of the clothes than some crazy encouragement of anorexia?

  • Am I late to the Party?

For all those who stated it came down to personality - please. Fact is week in and week out Christian was the most talented - artistry (his sketches were beautiful in and of themselves), vision (yes, alot of ruffles, but during the season he had significant range), execution (he had skillz) and consistency (only once, prom dress, was he not in the top 3).

Anywho - I was distracted the entire last show by wishing we had been treated to Chris' collection, which without the ick factor and his pedigree would have topped Rami.

And am I the only one who thought Christian's 'don't eat' was more a joke about the fit of the clothes than some crazy encouragement of anorexia?

Of course it was a joke...he even laughed while saying it. I think the letter early in the thread that took him to task for that comment (along with, "Don't be late!") was just a cheap shot. The don't be late comment was understandable, given the stakes and the fact that they'd already had issues with late models (the episode where Sweet P got "aufed") so I don't think it was out of bounds at all. Especially since a couple of his models ended up being seriously late for the Bryant Park show anyway!

  • Sexism?

Christian wanted the models to make his clothes look good.

Rami and Jillian wanted their clothes to make the models look good.

That's the distinction between the three finalists. If the judges fell for Christian's egocentric mysogynism -- and I believe they did -- then we should fault them for that.

  • What does a model do?

Christian wanted the models to make his clothes look good.

Rami and Jillian wanted their clothes to make the models look good.

Guess what? Models are hired to make clothes look good. That's their job. Do you think scriptwriters write to make actors sound good? If they do, they're doing it wrong. Models model clothing. That's what they do, and I hope most of them get a good deal of satisfaction out of it.

  • Kevin got tossed over Christian because he didn't finish his dress.

    No.

Kevin got auffed because the judges didn't *like* his dress. But they didn't like Christian's dress either.

Kevin didn't hem the dress, but that wasn't what auffed him. The judges didn't like the color, the cut, or the fit. And Michael Kors said the dress made the girl look "old" and "hookerish."

As for Christian's dress: the judges didn't like the colors (gold! and black! and brown!), the cut (the uneven skirt was too short in the back, exposing some booty), or the fit (made the girl look heavier than she was). And it was ticky-tacky, without any "editing" or a "point of view." *And* Christian seemed unwilling to communicate with his client, or accept any responsibility for the disaster. (Kevin's client, by contrast, liked her dress until she heard the judges tell her she looked like a 40-something crack whore).
