maybe not but there is not the slightest chance that they will have either the desire or the capability to treat anyone they DO end up with who CANNOT do these things as their equal or anything like it. It's very very simple: men with no money HAVE MUCH LESS INFLUENCE over women with money than the influence that women WITHOUT money have over men WITH money and while women thought this influence wasn't nearly enough when it was all they had men are now supposed to be satisfied with MUCH MUCH LESS. And apparently they mostly are.

Absolutely true. And a concept that women have trouble grasping, or choose to overlook.
She says: "You cook really well."
She means: Occasionally I make spaghetti from a can -- but mostly I just nibble on salad from Cosi.
You say: "Thanks, I enjoy it."
You mean: Four hundred dollars worth of non-stick saucepans and stainless silverware will be worth it if I finally get laid.
Obviously there is some degree of confusion over gender roles and that may be over represented on a number of new shows. But, I'm curious how the author would rate shows such as Medium, Battlestar Galactica, and Bones since they have both strong female and male characters. In particular, Medium has the most believable marital relationship on television in recent memory. While these new shows reflect some of contemporary society's anxieties with shifting roles and responsibilities between men and women (as well as the limited ability of largely neurotic TV writers to deal with these changes), television as a whole is hardly a reliable source to reach any legitimate conclusions about the current state of relationships.
This guy couldn't care less about the new tough 'guys' being women. It's simple; I, and male friends that I spend time with, simply don't watch these completely dumb programs. The History channel, and ESPN do quite nicely, thank you.
A note to advertisers; Your overdosing on women drives this guy to advertisers that do not overdose on women. I love my wife and daughters - and I work comfortably with 'real women'. But this garbage on TV and commercials where men are goofs and women are sophisticated macho leaders is just unreal... If you can't get the real world (balanced world) straight, why should I waste my dollars on you? So I don't.
Giving women a variety of role models is the true beginning of female liberation. It's because we were denied stories about ourselves doing anything besides being wives and mothers that we became truly enslaved. This is one of the most inspiring articles I have read in years! If we survive the upcoming devastation implicit through global warming, women will finally start evolving into something more than embracers of their own oppression. Viva la revolution!
There should be no defining masculine and feminine characteristics. Women can be like men and vice versa. Jodie Foster's movie was compared somewhere to The Punisher which I found surprisingly entertaining.

Battlestar is fairly revolutionary in its depiction of gender roles and the dynamic between the sexes. Medium is also refreshing, and i appreciate how loving and refreshing their marriage is for television, but I do find the husband to be a little feminized and unbelievably understanding, and he is written in a way that caters to how women wish men would behave, and not how men actually behave. The show is still very much about Alison, and hubby is there simply to support her. But yes, it is a nice, fairly honest, and refreshing depiction of a modern loving marriage. Bones is an example of a subcategory of procedural cop drama where you have a brainy, attractive every woman who runs the show, and you have a sexy, macho, but not to sharp tough jock sidekick to help her out and provide the brawn to her brains. Gosh could that be a female fantasy???
maybe in 35 years we can have a tv show about how sexist and dominating women were in the 90s and 2000s. Wow look how primitive we were! we will call the show Mad Women. I cant wait.
You cot a cite for that?
In other words, other than just your personal experience, do you really believe that this is true for everyone?
and the fact that something so obvious is so debated ought to tell you that something is being pointed to that matters but isn't being acknowledged.
Whenever I see shows/ads/etc. where women wield weapons I know I've entered the Twilight Zone. What worries me is others thinking such depictions are real.
A more realistic scenario was shown in the samurai film HEAVEN AND EARTH. An all-female cohort of elite horse-riding guards attacked an equal number of everyday enemy cavalrymen. About 98% of the women lay dead or dying on the ground after the first pass. On TV, though, things get reversed. There the women always beat the guys...often by attacking testicles There are no comparable scenes where a lone male attacks and kills scads of women via smashing/cutting their genitalia.
The military has bought into feminists myths, too. Military photo ops now routinely have 10,000 faceless males (who actually face combat) surrounding ONE front-and-center soldierette normally kept safely behind lines.
And no one is to notice.
It's like watching the boss' daughter get a homerun each time at bat during the company picnic. We're supposed to believe she's really that good, not that the semi-pro males on the opposing team want to keep their jobs.
The endless assault on men and manhood causes the obvious: Guys withdraw and/or fight back. The latter is happening more and more (alas, belatedly), but most men simply go elsewhere. When mainstream TV shows men to be inept, inferior klutzes guys know cable/satellite/DVDs offer alternatives. Similarly, when marriage makes divorce easy for women (who then take the kids and expect the ex to pay-pay-pay), guys stay single? When older women act like embittered crones. Guys date younger gals who are more fun and less bitter? When artificial wombs become routine, when male birth control gets perfected, it will be a brave new world indeed.
Guys are tired of feminist lies. There is no patriarchy. Never was. The world is the way it is-- and has always been-- because enough men AND women make/made it that way. You can't have wars unless women raise boys to be warriors. Patriarchy is meaningless when "society" forces men to fight against their wills. Calling things “patriarchal” is a backhanded way for women to blame men for everything while absolving women.
"Misogynist oppression" never existed. Rather, oppression was gender-neutral. The home-bound wife who complained about being bored and stultified was matched by the factory-bound husband, bored and stultified on the assembly line. Just because he didn't complain as loudly and as often (due to social conditioning) as her didn't mean he was happier or freer or more fulfilled than her.
Feminist present one side of things in the court of public opinion. Then they shame/muzzle the opposing male side and ask for quick verdicts. Men complied for too long (mostly due to socialization that said it was unmanly to ever fight a female). Guys are finally standing up, though, refusing to stay mute. Hopefully it’s not too late.
Feminism is based on child-like hatred. It complains about things which it neither understands nor wants to be responsible for. It acts like money grows on trees, that "feelings' matter more than thought, etc. It never talks about exploited males, be they longshoremen, miners, firefighters, etc. Males suffering equally blows their game.
In fact, few feminuts have knowledge of or empathy for real men. Many will laugh during that show when a man gets raped by an animal. Like they laughed when a real boy was raped by a dog. To them, men don’t matter. They believe touching a vagina without permission is murder. On the other hand, castrating men-- physically, chemically, or psychologically-- is considered mirthful.
Most media showing “equal” women fail to mention that federal programs made men gun-shy about competing with females directly. In fact, actual, open competition gets derided as sexist or harassing. Ergo, even the military now has different standards for man and women (which supposedly double-standard-hating fembots cheer). A woman entering the men's room is considered bold. Not arrogant, rude, or a shithead: BOLD. Yet let a man stand too long near the women's restroom and the same feminists will have him arrested.
Note, too, that most “powerful” women on TV have cushy, safe, "professional" jobs. Few are cops on the beat, plumbers, truck drivers, etc. They expect the "lesser sex" to wash their high-rise windows, install and maintain the A/C, create the Internet, connect cables, string power lines, test planes, network computers, etc. There are no blue-collar calluses on "feisty" feminist hands.
Someone wrote a book called, "Without Men Civilization Would Last Until The Oil Needed Changing." Too true. Women do not work as hard or as long as men. They do not take as many risks. Nor do they work the hardest jobs. They will eat Alaskan crab during power lunches, not work power winches on boats harvesting same.
How much longer will men indulge rabid, anti-male fembotulism?
The question seems not to bother feminists. I doubt they ever even ask it. They think all women lesbians or at least man-haters (That is…feminists!). But for women who actually like, nay LOVE, men these are painful times...ones that may morph badly.
If network TV reflects the true state of affairs between the sexes then the coming years will be "interesting." In the sense of the Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times."
As they say, the actual social revolution will NOT be televised.
