"Self-actualization
Self-actualization--invented by Kurt Goldstein, a mentor to Maslow--is the instinctual need of humans to make the most of their abilities and to strive to be the best they can.
Self Actualization is the intrinsic growth of what is already in the organism, or more accurately, of what the organism is.[2]
Maslow writes the following of self-actualizing people:
* They embrace the facts and realities of the world (including themselves) rather than denying or avoiding them.
* They are spontaneous in their ideas and actions.
* They are creative.
* They are interested in solving problems; this often includes the problems of others. Solving these problems is often a key focus in their lives.
* They feel a closeness to other people, and generally appreciate life.
* They have a system of morality that is fully internalized and independent of external authority.
* They have discernment and are able to view all things in an objective manner.
In short, self-actualization is reaching one's fullest potential."

she discovered early she was lesbian and didn't ruin lives. this is something everybody can applaud, straight, gay, phobes and philes. and it's all due to increased acceptance. all to the good. i did *try* to look it up, LC but the results varied widely, how much do you earn LC, how much Petraeus, and how many billable hours do you each have (i know, i know, petraeus is not an hourly employee - that's what you are, LC an hourly employee and the figures i got, 56,000 to 71,000 and 60 hrs/wk don't put you in gated communities (only a gated life))
"are you having your period today or something?" - are you going to say "don't get your panties in a twist", next?".
if being a fat beast's hired tongue is the best you can be, i feel sorry for you.
begins her piece by telling us that the "good news" is that women will be "kicking ass...physically" on TV this fall. In other words, violence against men is a good thing. She then goes on to bemoan the gender politics of many of the new shows. So I'm confused; how can the incredibly misandric stuff she describes be good news?
Apart from that, this is not news at all. For years, men and women alike have noticed the unspeakable misandry in popular culture. I'm glad Salon.com has gotten around to noticing it too albeit in a backhanded way. But we've been getting the messages "men are stupid, men are crude, men don't deserve what they get, men think of nothing but sex, men don't like children, men are sexual cheats, it's ok to hit, shoot, stab, etc. men for any perceived shortcoming, men are liars, etc, etc, etc. for many years. Maybe this season it's worse, but women kicking men in the crotch for saying something they didn't like was commonplace in TV comedies years ago, so I can't tell.
Does Salon really oppose this stuff or not?
Reality hasn't intruded yet.
Got a call from a young woman today who is moving her office, and couldn't possibly be competent or knowledgeable enough to you know plug in her keyboard and monitor and stuff I mean that's just so beyond her abilities.
Kibbitzed with a couple of people, a man and a woman of a certain age, as am I, and reminisced about the good old days, when women really did kick ass (and not just do taibo). When you'd hear a woman say, "I don't need a fricking man to help me set up my computer!" (Except there weren't many computers back then, so substitute some other activity -- changing a tire, putting in an air conditioner.)
The truth is, the older and middle-aged women are far more likely to try to work stuff out on their own than the 20-somethings, and the 20-somethings around here are all college-educated best and brightest types.
Maybe it's the class and not the gender?
Well, David, back in January of this year, first-year associate salaries in New York City in BigLaw went up to $160,000, from $145,000.
Here's an article discussing this phenomenon: http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1169473050076
I am not an hourly employee: I get an annual salary (see above), plus bonus, which is around $35,000, for a total of $195,000. We sure do work a lot, I will be the first to admit, and we don't get paid any overtime.
General Petraeus is rank O-10, with over 30 years of experience, which gives him 15,234.00 per month, which equals to $182,808. Now, I'll admit that he probably gets some sort of hazard pay, maybe he has lower taxes or something, but I still think that that is absurd.

A senator, incidentally, earns $162,000.
Would I rather be an associate in a law firm or General Petraeus? hahaha. I imagine he works many, many hours.
schoolgirls are fighting much more than they ever did before (in the good old days, they'd *cause* fights, not participate in them) but then, i find the wrestling on TV repulsive (and they *do* get hurt). america's love of football glorifies violence, and when they get players, like Vick, from the ghetto where human-beating is acceptable, they get all self-righteous when it is applied to dogs. is it really any wonder we are in iraq?
Re: Kelsey Grammer on "Back to You"
You are allowed to say "fuck" on Fox now? Are you sure that is quoted correctly? I find that really hard to believe, even if it was beeped out.
195,000 the first year! that's really incredible to me. now for the next question and i'll stop bugging you. what do you work on? admittedly, my impression is that lawyers basically screw other thieves out of their money, which is, "problem solving" in a way.
you make lots & lots of money and are very successful and 'self-actualized'. I'll even go further and say you are the greatest person ever to live in this or any other universe.
We get it.
Are you gonna post your W-2's on the internet for us to view next??
As far as TV goes, it is pretty much a vast wasteland--130 channels of shit on the TV to choose from--to paraphrase an old pink floyd line.
The news is spun spun spun to fit the commercial interests of the advertisers.
People still watch network shows?? That in itself amazes me.
