McCain
Remarkable, really, when you think about it. Bush and Rove succeeded where the Viet Cong could not, finally breaking the once proud Senator from Arizona. Sad and scary, too. The sooner we are rid of their stench upon the Potomac the better.

Fox math
I checked in on Fox from time to time throughout last night. My favorite thing was that when CNN and MSNBC were projecting that the Democrats would pick up 23 seats, Fox was projecting 9. This was at a point late enough in the evening that everyone had concluded that the Dems would take the house.

Fox: Just "a standard election"
Thank you my friend, for having the nerve to watch Fox all night! I couldn't have done it! Brilliantly stated observations! You made my day!

who's doing the whining van souther?
from lush rimbaughs radio show:
transcript:
Hey, Rush, I just voted. I have no hope that a Republican will ever again win in my state of Illinois or anywhere else. We had the new electronic ballots. I can see how the Democrats just took over the voting and why they've been so confident. Number one, it was a complicated process for dumb people, so they needed help for all of it. And those election judges are going to actually be doing the voting for these people that don't understand these electronic ballots. At the end of the process, it said 'ballot not accepted' or 'accepted,' so when it's not accepted the election judges will come in, correct the ballot, and that will take away all those thrown out votes of the past, therefore the dumb Democrats' votes will now count. That means of over the 1,000,000 ballots usually thrown out in Chicago, they will now all count and most all of those ballots, all those dummies will now count, and usually the dummies are the Democrat bloc voting group. This will be all over the USA and you can kiss the big states good-bye to Republicans."

Entertainment value at its highest
van souther, if you look carefully, this piece is in the "Arts & Entertainment" section of Salon. I, for one, was highly entertained!
Andrew, thanks for a wonderful piece. It lifted my spirits. I was feeling badly that I have to live through another term with my rubberstamping repub congressman who won by this election by the skin of his teeth.

Morning in America
Andrew, thanks for this extremely well-written, laugh-out-loud hilarious, and totally right-on piece. Made even more enjoyable by the breaking news: Montana is now official (victory!); Rumsfeld is out; and Macaca is Sore Loserman '06. With Dick "Cakewalk" Cheney busy slaughtering captive birds in another canned "hunt", Junior is left home alone to begin the painful task of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. I'm sorry that I missed Michelle Malkin, who at least is pleasant to look at; but Claire McCaskill thanking Rush Limbaugh almost made this nation's six-year nightmare worth it. Almost. (Except for the half-million killed so that Rove could call Junior a wartime president; and if I were in Iran right now, I would be very nervous) But regardless what happens, this is a beautiful day. Peace out!

Just "a standard election"
I think you give these guys more credit than they deserve. Like most of their counterparts, they're nothing but but trained monkeys who dance for whatever organ grinder signs the paycheck. Given the right opportunity and incentive, any one of them, with a few exceptions, would reinvent himself as liberal.

Giant, Hungry Snails Overrunning Barbados
That's a front-page headline on today's front page of Fox News' website. I kid you not.

HappyDem
www.newshounds.us provided a Fox watching blog, if you need one before Salon steps up to the plate.

I'm havin' a great day
And your article just made it better. Thanks, Andrew.

George Will at ABC
had the same analysis of the dems winning the House as "being a normal occurrence" in a midterm election and went on to give the viewer a lesson about the founding fathers intentions of the Senate being the temperant balance to the House, blah, blah, blah. Not sure what he would say today regarding the possible Dem control of the Senate too, but I'm sure he could pontificate in the way only he can as to how this too was forseen by the wise FF's (and himself).

Out Foxed
The right wingers are licking their wounds today. Your analysis on last night's Fox News coverage was on the mark! Funny yet true!
I could imagine that if the republicans had won, Fox news would have had more than the lackluster fireworks graphics display on the front of their news desk than what they had for the dems.
They should change their tag line to "Fair & Imbalanced".

I can't blame Reid too much
I didn't think we'd take the Senate, either. I'm still not positive we will. A lot can happen during recounts when Republicans are in charge. I predicted that we would lose the Senate and gain the House, but by a small margin. Never have I been so happy to be proven wrong.

Funny, funny article...
Andrew O'Hehir's article on the crumbling facade of sanctimony on election night at Fox was an absolute tonic. Shadenfreude my ass! That felt damned good. But it occurs to me that Fox is so beyond parody that he may have simply been reporting..

McCain
McCain has changed over the last couple of years. It’s more than his obvious attempts to pander to the extreme right. He’s just not as sharp and quick witted as he used to be. Early Alzheimer’s maybe?
Loved your commentary on Fox’s election coverage.

Not even trying
After CNN projected that the House was going to the Democrats, I greedily flipped over to Fox News for my Schaudenfraude fix to watch them make the same announcement. (Gee, how did I know that Fox wouldn't make the announcement before CNN?) What I found were those four dour, depressed gentlemen. I waited patiently, then...pffffttttt. They made the announcement and didn't even bother to make a computer graphic fly onto the screen (a la "AMERICA AT WAR") -- just the lightboard in front of their desks lit up. No NASCAR-like sounde effects. Zilch. Brit joked weakly and said something to the effect of, "I swear, we would have had the same bells and whistles if things went the other way." Oh, Video Dog, please fetch us the footage!
