Peter and the Wolf
Loved it! Prokofiev's music is timeless romantic/dramatic. Then to be able to evoke that Russian rural peasant scene with animated figures was amazing. I loved the wolf and the duck and the bird and the grandfather. So interesting to see the behind the scenes of how the writer and artists and crew produced it. Hope it's scheduled to run again. And I will get the DVD from PBS.

Peter and the Wolf was lovely
I allowed my 7 year old son to stay up and watch. He loved it (except for the duck being eaten). It was so well done and evocative--they fully deserved the Oscar. I recommend it to all.

prosaic and the wolf
So boring I flipped away after 15 minutes. They think their animations are the star, but they're mistaken: Prokofiev's music is. But we go so long without hearing any of it. And a lot of the animation doesn't look good. When they bend the sheet metal, did you ever see sheet metal bend that way? When the cat shakes itself free of water, did you ever see a cat shake itself that way? Isn't it obvious that if you can't animate something to look believable you shouldn't animate it at all? If this was the best short film of the year it really makes me wonder how awful the rest of the field must have been. If PBS were smart they'd show all 5 and let us decide if the Oscar voters were actually right.
