  • re: The Beatles' "Discarded" Muses

Heather, you might be chagrinned to learn that Julia was John's mother, who died when he was 16, an event that had a tremendous impact on his life and art.

PS Martha was Paul's sheepdog. Michelle and Rita were just names Paul fancied.

  • Thanks for returning TV coverage

Thanks for trying again to cover TV and make some recommendations. One request: will you please include broadcast television recommendations daily? That includes PBS. I don't have cable/satellite/digital TV, and don't want to read a guide that won't include shows available on the broadcast spectrum.

  • This is "beefed up cultural coverage?"

Please tell me the reason you got rid of the excellent "Audiofile" feature wasn't to provide content like this -- the sort of lazy coverage that you can get in the inside back page of any local newspaper.

  • Amy Reiter!

No offense to Matt and Heather but I've missed Amy's rather tart(?) prose on Salon for a while now, so I'm pleased to see her byline again.

  • So Far, Not So Good

I agree with jad729. This is anemic coverage, especially in comparison to Audiofile. I still don't understand why it was dropped.

It is true that more people watch TV daily than listen to music, but TV is right there in front of us, and much of it is discussed in political and sports forums elsewhere in Salon. To me, music is a much deeper medium -- there are far more undiscovered geniuses out there. TV is pretty shallow and the best shows are not that hard to find.

I hope Salon gives a lot more thought to this feature.

  • How disappointing...

I would like to add my letter to those expressing great disappointment that something like... this... replaced Audiofile. I have always looked to Salon to provide content a little bit outside of the mainstream. TV guide already has a website.

  • The Fix

Can we have 'The Fix' back?

  • TV Daily

Why those snobs try to oppose tv and music? I like tv AND music. The TV Daily is a good thing. Give me more.

  • OK, I think I once said that if Heather H wrote the backs of cereal boxes I'd read them . . .

But I didn't expect Salon to hold me to it. TV listings of talk show guests?

I hope Day 2 is more like "cultural coverage" and less like the Channel 18 guide on my cable box. I look forward to the blog, but maybe you could just link the listings?

  • a compromise

how about a daily music download in the TV listing?

  • The Fix

It sure would be nice to have The Fix back. That change seemed to start what, for me, has been a slow slide downward for Salon. I'm only sorry that I extended my subscription shortly before this change was made. I will definitely not be resubscribing next time.

  • Audiofile vs TV Daily

I second the comments favoring Audiofile over this new feature. For those of your subscribers living outside the USA, there's no reason why we should even bother clicking on the link. Reading about what other people are watching on TV half a world away is depressing. Audiofile, on the other hand, was a global celebration of music that everyone could enjoy. It's a shame it was canned.

  • Fer crying out loud

Give them more than one day. Geez. Look, I'm as big a snob as the next person but even those of you who pretend to only deign to listen to classical and shun the TV catch a glance at it once in a while. You know who you are.

Salon, thanks for trying and for keeping it fresh. You aren't perfect but you're a damn sign better than the next best thing out there.

  • Updated daily?

I don't mean to sound cranky, but it's now 12:30pm ET on August 9th & we're still only reading day one (August 8th) of this new "daily" feature.
