That's all I need to know.
Like Joe Dante and Robert Zemeckis, he was Steven Spielberg's protege back in the 80s. He could do a remake of "Baby Doll" and producers would still take his calls.
Patty Keck was a pretty horrible creature and the references to her as a "secret shame" were funny because, when you finally meet her, you can see why Denis would want her to be kept a secret. Blame the directors for not making Patty Keck horrible.
I really want to like this movie, but I fear I won't be able to. I wonder if they will also make Beth's homicidal boyfriend cute and cuddly?
I read (and enjoyed) the book too, and I remember being certain that it was based on an un-produced screenplay. I think that happens a lot, because it is easier to publish a novel than to get a movie made. Dances With Wolves is a prime example.
I think we can chalk most of these problems up to the fact that Chris Columbus is one of the worst directors of our time. How does he still find work???
can't direct his way out of a paper bag. Cf.: the travesties that were the first two Harry Potter films. I swear to god, I think instead of writing scripts, they just bought copies of the books for all the actors, told them to open to the pages they were shooting that day, and start reading from the novels. ARGH.
...was an LOL read. And, while reading it, I just KNEW they were going to make a movie out of it. Sounds like the book might be better. When does THAT happen?! Oh yeah. Always.
