And that's about all I have to say about that.
and ya know what why is it that only white people have predjudice... there are no white awards, not white man of the year, not big celebration in Daytona called National White Pride week.. this is getting really old,, its time that everyone be on the same page and all this special treatment for blacks that were never slaves and probably never ever new a slave stop. Next youll want al sharpton as pres. and no two white people can marry. You built your race not either improve it on your own and quit moaning about racial equality and take responsibility for what you have or havent done, quite frankly im really tired of paying for you now the illegals, what the hell next.
Thanks, Nikki! i'm ordering it; looks like a great page-turner! Keep suggesting stuff--
One of the letters in this thread that brought up people (which I understood to mean black woman, maybe I'm wrong) getting salty about interracial love reminded me of that slogan you used to see on T Shirts back in the 90s-- "its a black thing, you wouldn't understand." Here's what white folks wouldnt understand about the pissiness towards "swirl" pairings SOME Black women have(caps because there are plenty of sisters who don't give a fuck about it). Black women have always been devalued in this society, held up against white beauty standards they'll never, ever, ever, come close to meeting (unless, that is, they're of the lighter complexioned, long haired variety like Bey), considered angry for no good reason (Michelle Obama anyone?) and in general assumed to be lacking. So yes, for SOME black women, the idea of Black men dating white women etc... has traditionally been seen as a kind of rejection. A vote of no confidence if you will. And it doesnt help that the numbers are so skewed--many, many more black men date outside of the race than black women.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, someone's going to reply to this and say those Black women I mentioned should just get over it. But we can't happily skip off to that land where we've supposedly transcended race by acting like there aren't complicated reasons why people feel the way they do. Having said all that, don't know why it was even brought up in the movie since it doesnt seem to be addressed!
Come on david smith, you know what I'm talking about; I'm talking about you. You and the rest of the "progressive" hypocrites who think lines about kicking some skinny white bitch's ass are acceptable - funny even - while lines about a black bitch are grossly offside. Why didn't you, like the later commentator, suggest that the writer was just as much of an asshole as me? Because you're a hypocrite david smith, and that was the (admittedly poorly executed) point of my post.
Just so you know: People in inter"racial" relationships don't have problems. If you will notice, the problem is with the people observing, detesting and commenting on such relationships.
This whole schtick is disgusting. There's the comments about black bitches and white bitches... not to mention the previous comment, from Duane something-or-other. I'm not sure what he disapproves of, whether it's the pawing and slobbering or the black-and-white aspect of it.
Either way, I'm left feeling a bit sickened by the apparent willingness of the reviewer and the commenters to plunge into racial stereotyping without being critical about it. People in interracial relationships have plenty problems already, and here we have what seems to be an exercise in exploiting stereotypes for profit, without regard for any damage done.
does every tv station and so many movies have some black stud pawing and slobbering over some white chic,, abc seems to not be able to put a movie or program on unless it meets these qualifications. It does get pretty old and really sends a nice message to the young youth of this country,,personally Ive had enough of it,,,,,,,,,
I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about, but I am pretty sure you sound like an asshole.
... and might have been a tad better if Ali Larter's part hadn't been so woefully underwritten. Unlike many, I never thought Fatal Attraction was all that, so I wasn't expecting much from Obsessed. What the first movie had over the second was a psycho with a motive; Glenn Close's character's past was hinted at through her scrapbook, and Close's bravura performance suggested a woman who was deeply damaged, as well as mentally imbalanced. Larter's character, on the other hand, was just the designated sexy lunatic, and might have been played by any number of interchangeable Hollywood babes. At least Larter gave it her all, and looked ridiculously hot in the lingerie and stilettos.
Elba was likewise adequate as a decent man whose mild flirting came back to bite him in the ass. Beyonce was Beyonce. I might have found her more believable if her voice hadn't been all over the musical soundtrack, making it hard to separate the entertainer/singer/diva from the role of wronged housewife.
Oh, well. The movie wasn't worth my full-price ticket, but the popcorn was warm, and my date smuggled in a couple of G&Ts in a flask, so all in all, it wasn't an excruciatingly bad way to spend an evening. BTW, I've noticed that someone keeps pimping a book by Theresa Gonsalves in quite a few online forums discussing this movie. An identical review pops up in the comments section of the NYT review and in a number of other major newspaper reviews, complete with a link to the book on Amazon. So someone's getting something good out of this movie ...
If Omar ain't in it, it ain't worth watchin. I best tip on out.
Sounds like a less than optimal use of talent all the way around. And as for the excellent Idris Elba: Where's Stringer Bell when you really need him?
White women "stealing" good black men is a contentious issue? Not in my neighborhood. Black women "stealing" good white men, or black men "stealing" good white women, and white men "stealing" good black women? Asian men "stealing," Hispanics "stealing?" It's ridiculous. The last time I looked, adults could choose to be with whom they wished. Nobody "steals" anybody else.
