"The Uninvited"

Elizabeth Banks plays a menacing stepmom-to-be in this remake of the haunting, elegant South Korean horror-thriller "Sisters."

Unfortunate and unsurprising

In the abundant and mostly untapped wealth that is Korean cinema, A Tale of Two Sisters has always stood out for me as one of the very best (along with Oldboy and 3 Iron). That said, I should in no way be surprised or disappointed to hear, pretty unanimously, that this is garbage. That's just how we remake movies on this continent.

I'm Betting

the stepmon is a succubus. Those girls will have to find out what her secret song is and then sing it backwards to get her back to hell.

Yes, I've watched too many 'Southpark' shows.

weird

Elizabeth Banks looks like Parker Posey in that pic.

A Tale of Two Sisters

Aloha...I just checked and Netflix has the DVD of the original Korean flick "A Tale of Two Sisters" in their catalogue. It's an intense, though baffling production.

Thanks for the review of the Uninvited....I find I usually don't care for remakes of foreign films; the quirky, different quality that attracted one in the first place disappears under the bright lights and flattening of character.

Thank you~

I feel less alone knowing I'm not the only one left in complete bewonderment at the end of Tale of Two Sisters. I thought the movie was great; just obscure beyond my comprehension. I 'got it', as far as events, etc.; I just wasn't sure who was the least in touch with 'reality', the potential step-mom, the daughter or me!

@Paul in KY...

And I suppose the family realizes their house is on an old Indian burial ground when their beloved goldfish spells out "Kill You" on the side of its bowl...;)

Not weird at all!

I think she looks like Parker Posey all the time, and thought it was just me. It must be that demented gleam in the eye.

the end of two sisters (spoilers!!!)

I thought that the protagonist remembered at the end that she had been responsible for the death of the other sister, who is either a ghost or (more likely, IMHO) a hallucination the protagonist was experiencing, as she had gone mad.

TGIF

Is it me, or is anyone else sick and tired of viewing the trailers to The Uninvited?

I am so glad this movie has opened, because the annoying trailers that have been repeatedly shown on TV the past weeks (feels like months),will soon be gone.

My gratitude is . . .

that this isn't a remake of the wonderful film of the same title starring Ray Milland and featuring the song "Stella by Starlight"--this is still my favorite ghost movie of all time!
