"A Christmas Tale"

This magical French film captures the way people sometimes feel the most lost within the context of their own families.

a thoughtful experience

I saw this a month and a half ago now, and out of a flurry of movies I saw at the Van Film Fest, I find this is the one I keep returning to in my thoughts. It gets to you for sure, but not in an obvious way.

Coming from a large family, I can definitely sympathize with many of the characters. And Amalric, man, he's rad as Henri. Between this, his turn in Bond and The Diving Bell & the Butterfly, well, he's certainly becoming one of my favourites to watch. I love when he recites the letter to his sister. It may be my favourite monologue in any film that I've seen this year.

Anyhow, I may try to see it again once it makes its way back to Vancouver (actually it may be here this weekend?). Definitely worth the investment of time.
