"Journey to the Center of the Earth"

Put on those gimmicky glasses. This old-fashioned adventure will wow you with the possibilities of modern 3-D.

How about a spoiler alert?

Like: "Spoiler alert: No ducks get harmed in this film."

Bummer

Sadly, the flaw in 3-D technology is that not everyone can enjoy it.

I am one of the many out there who lack "stereo" vision. While almost everyone has a "dominant" eye, they still focus both simultaneously. However, I focus only one at a time. Generally, the right eye for close in -- reading, for example -- and the left for distance (anything more than a few feet).

This doesn't mean I see nothing out of the eye not being focused. In fact, I seem to have better peripheral vision than most; since the unfocused eye isn't doing much, it tends to pick up movement quite easily, and the shift from one to the other is nearly instantaneous.

Ah well. Perhaps some day they'll be able to transmit the such cool effects directly into the optic nerve center.

The great James Mason (who also played Capt. Nemo in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea) was in the original "Center of the Earth"

Now you have a fuckwit like Brenden Frazer playing what I must presume to be the Pat Boone part. Encino man at the earth's core anybody? This might be a good come back oppurtunity for Pauly Shore to show up as Chaka the monkey-man-boy. Well, anyway, this is I think the third treatment of Verne's book, and I don't think anything new has been discovered under the surface of the earth, or in Hollywood's imagination. By the way, Zacharek is a good reviewer, so don't everybody start in on her. I think it would be a hard job to review most of the remake refuse that passes for fresh entertainment at this present juncture in Hollywood hand me down climate of crap cinema. What's the next remake to be? "Chaka and me?"

Come on and Do it Already

Good reviewing Stephanie. You've made even this jaded old movie goer want to see this story again, and again and again. Naturally I'm not old enough to remember the 1939 World's Fair where they handed out glasses that allowed the audience to see so-called 3D movies for the first time. I'll only admit that my folks told me about it.

But I have loved Brendan Fraser since first I saw him in Still Breathing. Creating a great deal of excitement is the new partnership of Intel and DreamWorks to produce the first animated movies in 3D. Hope to see regular movies that way while I'M still breathing!

No country in the world can beat America in this kind of technology. Never could. Never will. Intel is already developing next generations of games and home entertainment. Americans will never lack for entertainment.

But until our leadership focuses the country's attention on its unique and unrivaled capacity for ingenuity and creativity we will not solve our dire problems of global warming, oil dependency and the rest. People like Jules Verne saw into the future. Why the hell can't we?

REVIEW OF JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH

I haven't yet seen this movie, but hopefully, I will get the chance to very soon. I've always enjoyed reading reviews on different new films to determine if I want to go, before I pay for the ticket, and don't really like the movie. I found a man by the name of Edwardo Jackson who writes reviews for movies. He also reviewed this same movie. I wanted to see how similar it is to this review. http://urbanthoughtcollective.com/2008/07/10/edwardo-jackson-journey-to-the-center-of-the-earth/
