"Penelope"

In this modern-day fairy tale, Christina Ricci, wearing a prosthetic pig snout, proves she's nothing to snort at.

Sounds okay but...

this really reminds me of Studio Ghibli's "Porco Rosso," surely the greatest animated film about a WW I flying ace turned into a pig ever made. Perhaps unlike "Penelope", Porco's porcine appearance is a metaphor for his selfish, me-first attitude. If Penelope's theme is "Love yourself as you are," Porco's theme is "love your neighbor as you would love yourself." The difference, I'm guessing from the review, is that "Penelope" is really all about a cute girl with a snout, whereas Porco is about the personal redemption of someone who just happens to have a snout.

Make that, "Better than if she'd had a curly TAIL."

Ye gods, the typo imps strike again.

Great minds, and all that

I haven't seen the movie, but it was interesting to see Stephanie echo my opinion based on seeing the trailer. When they show Christina in her pig nose I thought, "Hmmph, she's not so bad. Cute eyes and a sly sense of humor. That's not all bad. Better than if she had a curly tale."
