Michael Moore's scathing, important look at the U.S. healthcare system has plenty to rile the far right -- and a lot more to enrage the larger American public.

  • ah yes, profit is the ONLY reason to do anything...

Oh, I really love the right's argument that without the opportunity for profit there is no reason for anyone attempt to excel at anything.....

Health 'insurance' is fundamentally a 'socialist' idea, that being that we won't all get sick at the same time, so if we all put a little bit into the pot there will be something for individuals to draw on if/when we do get sick. Adding the notion of profit to the system is essentially saying, OK, we're going to let this small group simply take 20, 30, 40% of what is in the pot- heck, let them control the pot and whatever doesn't get spent on actually providing healthcare, they can keep.

The profit 'motive' in health insurance serves only to promote the excelling figuring out ways to NOT provide any care or service.....

  • Federal Junk Food Tax

How do we pay for a healthcare system that covers the poor AND won't be a bone in the throat of the American people? Tax that which makes us all unhealthy. Doritos, Oreos, soda, cakes, french fries -- they are all health risks and in some cases can hardly even be called "food." How about a steep 18 percent tax on Twinkies and Ho-Hos? Who could argue against taxing things that are most certainly bad for us all? It would encourage healthier eating and encourage the food giants to make edibles that do not fall under the label of "junk." It's a win-win situation.

  • Almost every drug advertised on TV is for something trivial

    ED drugs? Check.

    Nexium? Check.

Whatever that drug for bloating is? Check.

    Accutane? Check.

    Astelin? Check.

    and so on.

Yet Americans demand the 'right' to consume and to be compensated for them. What next? Therapeutic haircuts?

  • Michael the Great

At the moment Michael Moore appears to be the only honest man in America. That being the case he would of course be an obvious target for the pathological liars who always seem to wind up occupying the White House (or should that be the Grey House, not quite clean these days). My fear is that the Gang of Shits who control America for their profit and amusement will find a way to (a) destroy his reputation or (b) kill him -the way they killed all the others who dared to hold them accountable for their crimes against humanity.

  • Bad spin. No bounce.

Yet Americans demand the 'right' to consume and to be compensated for them. What next? Therapeutic haircuts?

Your misinterpretation appears to be willful. People are getting suckered by greedy corporatist marketers - and instead of blaming the marketers, you blame their victims.

    Typical right-winger:

Things you have to believe to be a good Republican.

    8. You have to believe that corporations always have the public's best interest in mind.

  • Things you have to believe to be a good Republican.

    1. You have to believe that the AIDS virus will just go away if you ignore it.

    2. You have to believe that it's better for children to learn sexual education from their 4th grade peers than from an adult.

    3. You have to believe that the weapons actually killing Americans are less dangerous than the ones we simply make up.

    4. You have to believe that art is anti-social and immoral.

    5. You have to believe that putting billions of tons of Greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year for decades on end won't have any adverse effect on the environment and that anybody who thinks otherwise is a traitor.

    6. You have to believe that, even though homosexuality and marijuana exist in nature they are somehow unnatural.

    7. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

    8. You have to believe that corporations always have the public's best interest in mind.

    9. You have to believe that evironmental activists are loony.

    10. You have to believe that starting wars all over the globe is good for self-esteem.

    11. You have to believe that corrupt politicians aren't really corrupt at all, just the "few bad apples" who carry out their sick agenda.

    12. You have to believe that the NRA is good because it supports one part of the Constitution, while the ACLU is bad because it supports all of the rest.

    13. You have to believe that taxes are too high, but spending should be higher.

    14. You have to believe that American history did not exist before George Bush in 2000.

    15. You have to believe that racial quotas are keeping the poor white man out of power.

    16. You have to believe that the hate seething out of Ann Coulter is really because she cares about the country.

    17. You have to believe that might makes right. No matter what.

    18. You have to believe that liberals who tell the truth belong in jail, but a liar and treasonous wretch belongs in the Whitehouse.

    19. You have to believe that homosexual parades would make a good shooting range, happiness and choice should be banned by the Constitution and that Religion is so weak on it's own that it needs to be sanctioned by the Government.

    20. You have to believe that someone who believes that torture is legal would make a good lawyer for the Nation.

    21. You can say "God" often, but never truly seek or follow him.

    21. Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.

    22. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "I can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

    23. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to the spirit of international harmony.

    24. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing UN resolutions against Iraq.

    25. A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.

    26. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

    27. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money

    28. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.

    29. Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.

    30. A president lying about an extramarital affair is a impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.

    31. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages, censoring the Internet, and utilizing illegal wiretaps on its citizenry.

    32. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

    33. Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.

    34. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

    35. Bush is never, ever wrong about anything. Or else.
