"Jackass Number Two"

Johnny Knoxville and his crazy pals shock, awe and thoroughly entertain in this frighteningly watchable sequel.

The letters thread is now closed.

No plans to see it - not even on DVD or cable TV

I'll feel a little better about myself if, like the first movie and all of the TV shows, I never see Jackass2. It's nothing against the stars or the movie or the people who watch it and even those who like it. There's just nothing about watching these guys continue to attempt suicide that makes me want to watch it...and that's before I saw the words "horse semen" in SZ's review.

But that does remind me of a great Buddy Hackett bit about the artificial insemination of cows. Try and look that one up - now that's funny.

"stunts"?

Granted, Salon isn't the first or only offender, but can we PLEASE stop calling the skits on Jackass "stunts"? The whole point of a stunt is doing something dangerous without getting hurt; doing something TO get hurt is not a stunt, god damn it!

Can't wait to see it....!!!!!

I saw the preview a couple of months ago here in Austin and tingled with delight while laughing out loud. These guys are hilarious and their mix of skill (ever see them skateboard?), ability to take a fall, and utter stupidity bring a smile and at times a rolling uncontrollable laugh to my day. My daughter was too young to see the first one when it came out, but now that she is 16 has seen it on DVD and will be right there with me at the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin for #2.

God Bless Johnny Knoxville and Crew!!!!!!

Yak

thats an effin bull. i had to go back and make sure Yak wasn't in quotes. was this a joke? cause they (the Jackass boys) are all about physical humor, not word play! i mean, the guy is in red, we get that joke from 6th grade cartoons. what gives SZ? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKK, the article was. and as for the yahoo that is complaining about them not performing "stunts" because there are no safety restraints: thats why its entertaining: they're fucking crazy sometimes, dangerous other times, always sophmoric, and great entertainment when one wants to sit on the couch, drink a beer, and spend two hours laughing without thinking too hard. we all do it, and i'd rather watch a punk rocker fight butterbean in a department store and get knocked out then watch two and a half men, or other such drivel.

Stunt

Main Entry: stunt

Function: noun

Etymology: origin unknown

1 : an unusual or difficult feat requiring great skill or daring; especially : one performed or undertaken chiefly to gain attention or publicity

Sorry, but according to Webster, there is nothing in the definition of stunt that indicates adherence to OSHA.

YAK

Robert:

Actually, it's a yak. They were planning on using a bison, but apparently someone shot it before the filming date, and the yak was used as a replacement.

I only know this because Knoxville was on the Daily Show last night.

who likes this ?

Is this one of those adolescent (sometimes only in spirit) boy things, or do adult women actually watch this stuff?

It's fine if they only hurt themselves, but...

If these guys want to hurt themselves for our amusement (and possibly their own), no problem. However -- and Ms. Zacharek, pay attention -- if they bother other people, then it's a problem. I don't golf, but I know that plenty of people do, and that it costs them a lot of money to do so. They golf for fun and relaxation, and the last thing they need are jerks ruining their day. They also don't need reverse snobs like Stephanie Zacharak trying to justify it all.

yay!

I am so excited for this movie. Another letter writer asked if there were any adult women who watch this stuff. I am 27 year old female attorney with a degree from an ivy-league school and I love Jackass. So do quite a few of my girlfriends. My boyfriend is also quite the fan. He has all the old CKY videos and reports that his very serious doctor dad loves this stuff, too. I'm not sure why I like it so much. It's hilarious, but it's more than that. They really are talented skateboarders, but it's also fun to watch their little community of pranksters. I guess it's really about not taking yourself too seriously. I mean, I'm a golfer (I grew up playing with my dad) and I think the air-horn scene is one of the funniest things I've ever watched.

who said anything about OSHA

My point was a "stunt" would be doing something like jumping on the bull as it charged towards you; fitting with your definition, that would require some skill. Just getting hurt isn't particularly impressive.

Stephanie, didn't know you're a Republican...

...because if you like wallowing in shit like this, you are.

Middle class white skater frat punks hurting themselves to feel any kind of emotion as they're removed from life's real pain. So when they pull one of their "stunts" on people, who call ambulances, that's treading on other's rights and wasting life-saving time. People who love JACKASS are the same people blabbing on the cell phone as they almost run you over in their SUV. Or in Stephanie's case, maybe a Prius.

Who knew Stephanie at heart is a classic little girl worshipping the bully. Cute.

Used to be too much of an intellectual snob, but...

I never saw Jackass on MTV. Based on the previews it was stupid and beneath me. I refused to see the movie until my wife got off a trans-Atlantic flight where she'd been inspired to watch it by the guy laughing hysterically across the aisle from her.

Jackass, the Movie was incredibly funny. I laughed so hard I cried. The jokes reached a fundamental level of humor/cruelty that I simply couldn't resist.

In the same way that amusement park rides give us a taste of fear in an essentially safe environment, the Jackass crew enables us to voyeuristically indulge that little voice inside all of us that says, "I wonder what would happen if I..." while knowing that the participants survive and aren't harmed (at least in the long run) or don't care about the societal consequences of their embarassing public acts.

As far as these things not being stunts are concerned, many of the things these guys do could kill or permanently maim you without training and a lot of athletic skill. The Jackass crew gets hurt while pushing the envelope, but they survive and avoid being crippled or killed.

I'm looking forward to Jackass 2, and I won't wait for it to get to DVD.
