Nice review
I haven't seen the movie yet (hadn't even heard of it before), but what a thoughtful, well-written review this is. Thank you, Stephanie Zacharek!

Failed Suspension of Disbelief
"Parker Posey plays a Cleveland go-getter career gal who has never had an orgasm, either with her husband, Jack (Paul Rudd), a high-school biology teacher"
Married to Paul Rudd and never had an orgasm ? ... See, right there, I don't buy it.

troll man and goddess woman... ho hum
the sight of them in their swimsuits is a comic vision from heaven: He's built like a Tiki-god party light; she's lithe, an elegant, screwball Gumby. But somehow, it works.
Yet again, the man is ugly, but full of character, and the woman is... stunningly beautiful, as is required of any female in Hollywood. Just once - once I ask - could we have a film where those positions are switched and the warm, smart, funny obese woman gets to frolick with a Greek god of a man, who's completely smitten with her?
Just once?

No adult Hollywood sex comedies?
I'm not sure of your claim that Hollywood doesn't make sex comedies for adults anymore. Last summer, two notable hits were Wedding Crashers and 40 Year-Old Virgin, both of which seem to qualify as adult sex comedies. Virgin especially manages to achieve the balance between ribald humor & sincere character comedy that Oh in Ohio is praised for. Just saying...

plain janes aren't plain at all
I agree with the letter written by "miriald"-- I'm a fella who would also love to see the "ugly duckling" gender roles switched. I've become numbe to the constant stereotype of the "ugly, dumb-as-a-stump fat guy" hooking up with the "smart, sassy, smokingly-hot woman". Hollywood's definition of a Plain Jane is someone who's a size 4. Give me a woman prefers 'The Nation' over 'Cosmo' and prefers DOS over gloss. Looks fade; brains and heart are made of much sturdier material.
