"Clean"

Maggie Cheung gives an astonishingly complex performance as a junkie rock star trying to clean up her act.

Stephanie, you've gotta be kidding...

...I usually find your instincts spot-on, but not this time.

Perhaps you were swayed by the pedigree of Assayas and Cheung.

In any case, I found this movie trite, cliched, and tepid. It was

basically a Lifetime Channel movie in slightly hipper clothes.

Both Assayas and Cheung have done much better work, especially Cheung.

Nolte was good....

Nick was great. The opening scene in Hamilton was pretty cool too - which is saying something, considering Hamilton is a total hole.

I laughed at the scooter comment. This movie made me want to get a scooter. I got my motorcycle licence and ride a motorcycle now instead, but still love the image of whipping around Paris on a scooter. One day I'll do it.

Let's do the time warp

I'm also curious why this movie is being reviewed now. Personally, I really enjoyed Nick Nolte's performance. I thought it was nicely nuanced from a guy I usually consider a little "over the top".

Umm....is it 2005 again?

I've seen this movie twice in theatres and the DVD has been available for a long time. Is it actually a new release?

Great movie nonetheless. Really great movie.
