Beyond the Multiplex

The director of "Friends With Money" gave Jennifer Aniston stained pants and Catherine Keener a "fat ass." And her movie gave me nightmares.

The letters thread is now closed.

Classic

This is a really great review. Although, you have to look past the reviewer's celebrity worship and the way he was taken in by a saleswoman's sophisticated presentation of her wares. Plus, he seems to disdain all of humanity. And his opinion of the movie doesn't seem to be all that great, even though he keeps insisting that it is.

But other than that, it's a great review.

Please warn us about spoilers!!!

I'm pretty sure I don't even have to see "Friends With Money" now, so much was given away. If you're going to give away key points, at least warn us that it's coming...

Jennifer Aniston... and an I$raeli war hero... hmm...

Sheesh(tm). When does my subscription expire..? It can't be soon enough. Any more tripe along these lines and I can make some homemade menudo...

Proposed twelve-step program for Salon:

1. No more Jennifer Aniston. Stop cold turkey.

2. Accept that you are powerless in your addiction to Jennifer Aniston news.

I understand that it's considered to be a terrorist act to criticize I$rael in any way, shape or form, up to and including expressing distain for any combination of the words "I$raeli," "war," and "hero." So I'll abstain.

Salon, You Have a Problem

Okay, enough with the Jennifer Aniston stories. We know that you are some how obsessed by a bottom of the A-List Celeb who's only claim to fame is being out hustled for her man by The Hottest Thing On Earth but this really must stop. Really.

Jennifer Aniston isn't cool, isn't that interesting, isn't even considered a box office draw. Jennifer Jumped the Shark.

Time to let go, girls. Have a good cry and eat some chocolate.

And in the meantime, how about some real news about the Bush Administration, or the inepititude of the Democratic party, or anything that isn't somehow connected to pregnancy, crying, vaginas, prescription pill poppers turned lovers, child-rearing, Jennifer, Bennifer, Brangelina...

This is Jennifer Aniston's vehicle.

This is the sort of film I like to see Jennifer Aniston in. It is subtle, textured, layered and smart. Much like most of her work she's done since Friends (the sitcom).

I'd say her divorce can probably help her career, since the characters that she likes to play were hard for her audience to swallow. No one saw her as the quirky, lovable loser when she was married to Brad Pitt. Only Jennifer never bought into THE BRAD PITT phenomenon. She simply saw him as Brad, the man she loved and married - as it should be - which as she said, resulted when they started dating after spending the night together on their first date.

She appears sincerely surprised that their divorce has fattened the pocketbooks of so many tabloids, reduced to what she called "a cliché". What was most unfair was how some gritty little publicist chose to characterize her divorce as she not choosing to have babies. So not true. How come he never mentioned that in interviews prior? Brad Pitt takes on the persona of every person he's with. (Take a look at past pics). Jennifer was a high achieving, down to earth woman, and so, then, he was too. I'd venture they worked more when together than at any other time in his life.

(Again, not from Tabloids, implied by interviews) Jennfer Aniston chose not to live a lie. She knew that something had occurred after he came back from filming with Jolie -- she didn't know, and didn't expect, it to be serious. Up to then, she and Brad had a real love, affection and friendship. However, Brad's relationships (look at his past record) last about 3-4 years. Five was a long time for him.

But give most men a choice between gorgeous he's lived with and new gorgeous, and he'll choose new. Brad is no "new age" man, he's simply a man. If he had such love, that he needed a lactating mother for orphans, that love would have been manifested the way he dealt with his former wife. Integrity.

Jennifer has moved past Brad Pitt and te publicity machine - let's hope the audience sees that. Sad that her personal trial got in the way of her professional success, when none was her fault. She's a fine actress.

WOW

I agree with every single previous comment, even if they are contradictory. Salon obviously is anti-Israel, but Israel shit is trendy, so they cover it "neutrally." They DO obviously love Jennifer Aniston, and it IS weird. And yet, J-An is pretty awesome, so I don't really blame them. Mr. O'Herir DID manage to do a good interview, despite his spoilers and his sycophancy. And, most importantly, how did such a bizarre, interesting, DEVISIVE article manage to supplant "real" news?

All that said, did anyone else think that Mr. O'Herir misinterpreted most of the characters, and the majority of their actions?
