Far from exposing children to "the demonic," as some Catholics claim, "The Golden Compass" celebrates independent thinking. As a Catholic, I hope my daughter will see it.
  • Well written

Thank you for a well writtne review. I chose this trilogy for my book club even though I had read it when it first came out. I have read it several times and come away with such a profound sense of loss and joy all at once. There is nothing wrong with a story that makes one think and challenge one's beliefs. I am not a Christian, but I know all the bible stories, having gone to a Catholic school. In fact, i know the stories better than my Catholic husband and our Christian friends. But then, all religions fascinate me.

I read the Chronicles of Narnia every couple years, because the stories are so beautiful. And I love reading about the lives of children, free and innocent, finding their way in the world they live in, whatever world it may be.

It is sad that people have so little faith in their faith, that they try to protect their followers from every perceived attack, warranted or not.
