Impaled on the windshield of life

Is Stuart Gordon's black-comic horror movie "Stuck" just tabloid-fueled gore or American metaphor?

The letters thread is now closed.

Stuck

I caught stuck at the Wisconsin Film Festival a couple of months ago, and thought it was nicely ambitious for a low-budget horror flick. I thought it fell more on the "tabloid-fueled gore" side, but it was still a good time if you're into that kind of thing.

Nicely cringeworthy in spots... Great sound editing, and I haven't been able to look at my windshield wipers in quite the same way since.

Welcome back, Stuart Gordon

Count me among those who think Stuart Gordon's "Re-Animator" is reason enough to put him forever among the ranks of the greatest moviemakers who ever lived or ever will live.

That said, he's made a lot of stinkers since then (though "From Beyond" was pretty good, even if the censors held him back, and "Dagon" was almost great). Maybe with the success of stuck, he'll get to really move ahead with "House of Re-Animator," though it won't pack the same punch as it would have had it come out during the Bush Disaster.

As far as "Stuck," I like Mena Suvari, but she'll never be a substitute -- in more ways than one -- for Gordon's former leading lady, the amazing Barbra Crampton (who, according to IMDB, will play the First Lady in HOR if it does in fact get made).
