Editorially speaking

This is the kind of Christmas where brother-in-laws have a violent punch-out at the dinner table

It's brothers-in-law, not brother-in-laws. It's the brothers, not the laws, that exist in plural here.

It does sound like "Fanny and Alexander" by the way. I loved "Fanny and Alexander." I'll have to check this one out if it plays near me.
