Impressions of Paris' last night in jail

Deranged fans, enraged protesters and garden-variety rubbernecks converge for one big release.

WTF?

Why does Salon keep giving space to this trash?

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 01:25 PM

Dear Salon, you can't have it both ways

When you publish an article about the ridiculous amount of media attention Paris receives, you've become part of the problem. You don't get to have it both ways.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 01:32 PM

but don't you see

....you're part of the problem, too! even if you didn't read the article (which you probably did, because it IS news, which is why Salon wrote about it), you still took the time to write about it yourself. and now i'm part of the problem, no matter how much i wish this girl and all the other tarts like her would go away....

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 01:39 PM

Problem?

I make no bones: I am definately part of the problem, whatever the problem is. If anyone has any other problems to be a part of feel free to email me and I can do my best to get involved.

Joe Cool

Too-cool-for-school cynicism is just so trendy and hip. I'm sure this fluff assignment was such a chore and beneath the author. Poor dear.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 01:44 PM

You have to admit

the girl looks less puffy and happier than she ever does in her photo ops. Maybe all spoiled hollywood tartlets should spend a couple weeks in jail.

Word

....you're part of the problem, too! even if you didn't read the article (which you probably did, because it IS news, which is why Salon wrote about it), you still took the time to write about it yourself. and now i'm part of the problem, no matter how much i wish this girl and all the other tarts like her would go away....

Hey smarties: Salon writes it becuase we click on it. Period.

Irony=

The very definition of irony is a very thoughtful, well-written piece on the countries fascination for Paris Hilton and why it must stop- run as the prime story of a news website with a shot of her beaming as she leaves jail...

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 01:50 PM

No. The style and impression I got was that Mr. Elliot wrote with a flare.

I smiled. I wish I had a "rubberneck" that could have been there too. You are lucky!

You mentioned that Paris looked more attractive without makeup.

The sight of an ordinary girl with rouge, lip stick, and finger nail polish makes me want to wail...She is attractive, ya gotta' admit...

...What is ugly, shabby, and very rude...flaunts to view a "celebrity" and that is what will ruin the poor girl.

P.S. And shame on her mother...IMHO. Paris Hilton needs care, protection, and guiding counsel.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 01:52 PM

please take this off the front page

please?

i've been avoiding websites, turning off radios, and changing TV channels to avoid this bullshit anti-news, and now here it is.

i'd be more interested in a story asking why she is considered news... i mean, it just isn't, right? prison overcrowding is, but no one is reporting that or using this bullshit as an excuse to probe deeper into it (if i'm wrong there, let me know). how many newcasts tonight will devote more than half of their 'news' coverage to this story, when we have a frigging rogue V.P. living in DC? cheney and the other politicans that we've elected will have much more impact on our day to day life than paris hilton ever will, but it seems that most americans either don't realize that or just don't care, and i'm sure cheney and the rest are glad for it.

...and i talk about iraq with my friends an awful lot more than we talk about this skank.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 01:55 PM

The only thing

offensive about this article is the last sentence. The F-ing Iraq war is not the only topic worthy of consideration to humans, there is no opportunity cost here, we can read about many things, talk about many things without devoting ourselves, with disingenuous exclusivity, to all things Iraq.

The implied apology is offensive as the article is displayed. Just do it and cease the endless hand-wringing about having done it.

It is news that this is news, it is revealing and interesting and what's most enjoyable is the people who are mad at Salon must have read it before posting. We all have a choice to ignore it.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 02:11 PM

Frontpage?

How many soldiers were killed or wounded in an inane war, it should still be more relevant to us than this spoiled brat. But than I read papers from elsewhere on the globe. Lo and behold there was Paris and not only in France.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 02:21 PM

Paris says she is the American Princess, Salon believes that too

Oh please Salon, more Paris please!!!!!

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 02:30 PM

jhillr, we all have a choice...

my choice was to voice my opinion here in the letters, after skimming the article to make sure that it was the bullshit fluff piece i was sure it'd be. believe me, i've ignored this non-news as much as possible, but it's been pretty damn tough. i saw it on the font page of my favorite site to go to for hard news and opinions (thanks, glenn g), and was irritated enough to complain.

"It is news that this is news, it is revealing and interesting and what's most enjoyable is the people who are mad at Salon must have read it before posting."

actually, it's incredibly disheartening that this is news.

the prison overcrowding angle was revealing, i'll give you that - still haven't seen that explored quite as in-depth as i'd like, though.

anyway, i'm glad i could add to your enjoyment of the piece by reading it before posting a comment or two, although i'm not really sure why/how you get a thrill out of that. different strokes, i guess.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 02:33 PM

AARGH!!

I thought Salon.com was the one website I could go to that wouldn't feature a front-page picture of Paris Hilton. I refuse to read this story, I don't care how well written and "ironic" it is.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 02:43 PM

Please. No. More.

Dear Salon Editors,

There is nothing worthwhile to be said about this subject. I can't imagine this subject generating any intelligent reflection on the nature of contemporary sensationalist media, etc., that hasn't been written already and in better circumstances and without pandering to the endless, voracious publicity machine this subject generates.

Please. No. More.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 02:46 PM

This is a wasted comment.

So, don't read me if you agree with me. And don't complain about it, either, because you'll just draw more attention to me. And none of us want that.

Tuesday, June 26, 2007 02:49 PM

Paris

Please ! NO MORE - I have had all I can stand of this really stupid, vapid woman.
