There are laws, and there are rules and regulations for a well ordered society. Laws are of the "Thou shalt not" variety, while rules and regulations. She broke no serious laws. Yes, she blew a .08; however most alcohol related traffic accidents and fatalities are caused by drivers with much high blood alcohol levels. Yes, she drove on a suspended license, but she wasn't drinking.
One of our family friends was killed by a drunk driver who blew .08. Ran over her and her family while they were fixing a flat tire well off the side of the road. In broad daylight. Do not ever say that drunk driving is not a serious offense- that trivializes the people killed by drunk drivers. You are just as dead if the murderer blows .08 or a higher perceptage. As far as I'm concerned, she should have been put under the jail the first time.
As for the LA Jail, it never fails to amaze me that the same people in OC, Brentwood, Malibu et al who scream for hardline determinite sentences for drugs refuse to approve the taxes to support the jails and prisons needed to enforce the policy. Are they hypocrites, or do they think releasing people who murder (as this sheriff has done- evidently 7 times in the last two years according to Friday's Chicago Tribune) is better than raising taxes? Are they just that stupid?
If they built adequate jail facilities, the sheriff would not have this power, and the issue would be moot. Cheap dumbasses.
I'm Lobelia (former star recipient).
I'm kind of a chickenshit.
Paris Hilton ,Sent by the Gods ,Who's destiny is as an Icon in the American People's struggle for freedom.
When was the last time we had a Hero of or own?
blithely bobbing above the law...working the system to her advantage...look, I'm not saying its not wrong. In fact, in just recent history a wealthy man bobbed blithely above the law as he bought his way out of college, skipped out on the air force, and weaseled his way into not one, but two terms of a presidency.
My only question is: how can it possibly surprise us that a) Paris gets away with it or b) she gets the attention she does because of it?
The only irony is that the fools who called complaining about her probably voted for the idiot king both in 00 and in 04...
Hang in there. I have actually read most of your letters and I like almost everything you write.
I too felt a little sorry for Paris, but it went away . . .
Could that be because I do not think of her as a real person but rather as a magazine paper doll, which since I don't have TV, is the only place I ever see her?
Oh, and here. I see her here. Actually, I am planning to get my eyes checked because -- for some strange reason -- I am seeing her triple.
specifically stated that house arrest would not suffice. Does anyone else suspect that she gave, or at least agreed to give, the sheriff a blowjob?
Um, yeah... you probably do read too much crap alternative journalism. Way too much, in fact. But at least thank you for providing an explanation why you have been writing what you have all this time.
Here's your tinfoil hat.
You have been noticed. You can thank me later.
Not until you stop writing about her, morons. And no, I didn't read any of your article, and never will.
I think that everyone is making Paris and her jail sentence deeper than it is. Chick had 3 strikes and now she's in jail. Justice served. End of story.
I barely care, but I have to note that its 45 days for Hilton and Lil Kim did 1 year. No one talked about poor Lil Kim and how hard it is. Lil Kim lied on the stand, and Paris got a DUI. Now which one is worse? Hmmm.
Yeah, I could draw the race card, but the rich card works just as well. Any American other than Paris (or someone like her) would have gotten a hell of a lot more than just that initial slap on the wrist. And for the 2 times that she was stopped by the cops and warned, think about how many times she was stopped and let go because of her celebrity.
Neverless, Paris and her perp walk dredges up issues about America's morality, meanness, and addiction to celebrity. What did we wonder about Lil Kim going to the slammer? How well her plastic surgery would hold without layers of makeup to offer some sort of method to that madness.
Somehow because its Paris now some of us are getting all hepped up. Its 45 freakin' days!!! That's just enough time for Paris to be propositioned by both an inmate and a guard, go through the stages of grief, and find Islam before she's set free.
Can't wait for Paris to get out so that she can do a rap album and write her own version of A Million Little Pieces.
For the love of god people ... Paris Hilton did not receive preferential sentencing treatment. If you or I engaged in the same conduct as Paris Hilton, WE WOULD NOT HAVE TO GO TO JAIL FOR LONGER THAN FOUR DAYS. She ended up with MORE jail time because she is who she is. As any public defender in the LA area will tell you, the jails are terribly overcrowded. Anyone with the sentence that Paris Hilton has would be let out to serve the remainder of time with an ankle braclet after serving 10% of their time (in her case four days). Moreover, all she did was drive on a suspended license. Few people, if anyone, gets 45 days in jail for driving on a suspended license (whether on probation or not). So, before everyone gets up in arms about unequal treatment, please do the factual investigation and figure out whether the unequal treatment was to her benefit or detriment.
I understand there are private cells for 'cops, politicans and celebrities' in the L.A. jail Hilton is in. Single occupancy. I don't think they were full - there are 6-12 of them. Hence, the 'overcrowding' argument falls flat.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
