Paris isn't free -- and neither are we Paris Hilton's strange celebrity hits a new nadir after Friday's chaotic perp walk. Will we ever be free from her now?

  • Welcome to America

This is America: Tramp Central. Paris Hilton is a bland slut whose only talent--sucking guys off--was recorded on videotape by one of the suckees. She makes $150K per party appearance at your useless Hamptons party, and she gets her face in tabloids I would not use as catbox liner. And yet this woman is famous. People care? Yes. Because the same country that listens to Limbaugh, Levin, Ingram, Agar, and Hannity is a country of braindamaged morons.

She was crying going into County? Who gives a fuck? Two months ago I spent 13 hours in County in Freehold, NJ for alimony arrears gone to warrant. It is supposed to be awful: from the food (boloney sandwiches) to submoronic CO's who to this day I would like to hurt very badly. But I wasn't a drunken tramp driving a car as though the laws did not apply to me because I'm "beautiful." This little slut got what she deserved: time. If there is any justice she got back into LA County and will shut the fuck up. Unless, of course, she has another smartassed lawyer to get her out of this too.

We get what we deserve. If we'll always have Paris it's because our national character is the underside of a toilet.

  • If you really want her to go away...

If you want to lose Paris, and we all do, why not just ignore her. Writing a piece calling attention to her does not help.

    S.F.

  • Exile is the only way

Will someone PLEASE exile this twerp to some island with plenty of food and water, but otherwise to be held incommunicado?

Then let's take up a collection to pay her flacks NOT to get ink for her?

With all the problems facing the country and the world, why, prithee, do we waste so much time with this child woman?

Please, please give us a break!

  • Spoiled Brat

That is the perfect moniker for Paris Hilton. Her parents deserve to join her in Jail for failing to educate their daughter in a proper fashion.

  • Enough with the Preaching

Full disclosure: I agree with everything said in this piece - who couldn't? - but I have to add that sometimes I wonder at this self-flagellation we feel we need to engage in everytime a celebrity scandal consumes more than a weekend of our collective mental month. We're like media bulemics, swinging between the all-you-can-eat tabloid buffet and the porcelain alter of self-loathing for our pathetic habits and the sorry culture that spawns them. Well, I'm done. I'm ready to admit that the fascination with O.J. and Paris is as human as twiddling opposable thumbs. The rise-and-fall arcs of these modern-day Greek heroes and Goddesses is the meat and potatoes that fuels our collective imagination and identity, and we need them as much as we need to once in a while get down to the business of electing leaders and curing diseases. So enough with the preaching and guilt; go on watching TMZ - just try doing so with a copy of Crime and Punishment in your lap.

  • She fancies herself a blonde, female Mumia Abu-Jamal?

How? She knows that she's guilty, and she's thrilled to have duped thousands of people into thinking that the's innocent? Ok, I guess that makes sense.

  • Decline of an Empire

It is so obvious that the short lived reign of the USA as the worlds only Superpower is over. The inevitable defeat of the military in the sands of Iraq, the decimation of the manufacturing sector. The idiot King picked by the "wisemen" and woman on the USSC to replace the thoughtful and intelligent choice of the people. And now the final cultural decline into the sad insipid gutter. Paris Hilton is the perfect symbol for what our country has become. Now the whole world just wishes that we would “go away”.

  • Just. Stop. Now.

I'm not sure what's worse, the endless coverage of this imbecilic woman, or the endless articles about why right-thinking people are/should be sick of her. And Salon, despite the quasi-lofty tone of this particular piece, is no better than E! Television and the rest of 'em in terms of feeding this particularly well-groomed beast.

If you're really, truly tired of her, Salon, stop the coverage. And stop it now. PR 101: Publicity, good or bad, elongates the news cycle. When the attention stops being paid, these people tend to go away. As a case in point, we don't hear too much about Anna Nicole these days, now do we?

  • It's news.

Am I tired of hearing about her? Yes. But not in this way... Celebritites like OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson, Robert Blake, et. al. have made a living joke out of our legal/justice system. When Paris was released from jail after serving three days, the anger should have been directed at our incompetent courtrooms and sheriffs, rather than Miss Hilton directly.

So enough with the, "if you want her to go away stop writing about her" crap. This is NEWS. This isn't a story about her lastest collagen injection or shopping spree. This is about justice FINALLY coming through.

...and to those of you who wrote that Paris Hilton is 'beautiful', you need to have your eyes checked.

  • Who had P-Hilty in the celenbrity dead pool 2007?

I did, but I figured that it would be a car crash, OD, shot by 'lover'. Didn't count on jail house suicide.

  • narrow world

    Hey Salon--

I've been busy reading 18th century Spanish literature and this is the first I've heard of any of this nonsense (I only read the first paragraph, because it all seemed so absurdly inane). It's not Paris who needs to put down the metaphorical apple martini--it is you. Polluting your mind with stupidity is a personal choice. You are not powerless--au contraire.

Why man, he doth bestride the narrow world

Like a Colossus, and we petty men

Walk under his huge legs and peep about

    To find ourselves dishonorable graves...

  • Alternatives

The Greeks had their pantheon of gods and goddesses to illustrate human foibles. We've replaced them with celebrities, too many of them without talent and only famous for being famous. But they do serve to make hard-working folks feel better about their own anonymous lives.

It's amazing that PH wasn't sentenced to six months or so in a no-nonsense treatment facility for substance abuse, which appears to be what she needs.
